Splinterlands Social Media - Rebellion Common & Rare Key Cards

By axelx12 | The Summoner's Inn | 13 Mar 2024

Welcome!

In this Social Media Challenge I’m going to make a list of those Common and Rare cards from the new Rebellion set, which I consider to be key cards to have. This is going to address the Bronze League for now, since my resources only allow me to play in Bronze/Silver, maybe Wild Gold because of the recent elimination of League barriers.

And this is mostly for players that aren’t new, have some other cards, and just want to acquire the right cards from the new Rebellion Edition to effectively strengthen their existing Splinters with new Monsters that allow more flexibility and new tactics.

The good news is that the penalization for using low level cards is over, the bad news is that the penalization for using Starter cards persist and I still didn’t buy any Rebellion, but because of my participation in Brawls I had to rent some, and here’s my key cards list.

Neutral Element

Always starting with the Neutral Element, since this is the group of cards you can always use in battle in combination with the other Splinters, assuming that the rules allow it.

  • Ulundin Overseer: one of the most eye-catching cards of this new set, this Common Monster possesses the new “Flank” ability, which grants the ability Reach to a card in the second position. Considering this Monster doesn’t have an attack, it could be Weapon Trained. It also has a huge deal of hit points and is already a great card to own at level one. Must buy. Battle Link

  • Moxian Rebel: this great Rare card has allowed many players, including myself, to develop a new tactic that generates a good deal of Magic damage, with very little Mana available, and that is because of its Weapon Training ability, which grants an attack, up to three, to non-attacking Monsters. As well as the previous card, this one is good enough at level one. Battle Link

Earth Splinter

  • Ujurak Mystic: this is one of those cards that you don’t need until you need them. It has the new ability “Lookout”, in which: adjacent Units receive one less damage from attackers with Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity. Additionally, all Units take half damage from as long as a Lookout Unit is in your team, so… we know now that the game is infested with Gladius cards now and particularly, the most dangerous in the Bronze/Silver area are: Katrelba with Sneak, Katie with Snipe and Isgald with Opportunity, so if you see any of these girls coming your way, having the Ujurak Mystic (or any other Lookout) could help a lot. This Common card is good to use from level one.

  • Blackmoor Nymph: Rare card with the Immunity effect. Immunity doesn’t abound in this game at lower levels, so having access to one card that has it, is a great thing. Besides, you only need three points of Mana to summon her and she’s from the Earth Splinter, so her Magic attack is a great partner of Obsidian’s Magic buff. Good to go from level one.

  • Sultry Barmaid: this Ranged Common attacker has the new Ambush attack ability, which allows her to attack before the battle begins. Unlike the previous cards, it’s absolutely advisable to get her at level three, since she also gets a 50% chance to Stun. This already gives you an edge, but if the “Heavy Hitters” rule is in effect, (all Monsters get Knock Out) her value skyrockets. Remember, level three. (In case you don’t know, an Stunned Monster gets twice the damage, if hit by a Monster with Knock Out.)

  • Anasth Soothsayer: this Rare Monster is especially great from level two, where she can both, Cleanse and Tank Heal. In case you’re asking yourself this, yes… she applies the cleansing first and then she heals the tank, which practically nullifies Affliction. Great abilities to have in only one Monster… remember, level two. Battle Link

Fire Splinter

  • Gobalano Soldier: the Splinterlands market understood quite fast the value of this card, making it one of the most expensive among the Rebellion Common cards. This card, as well as the Barmaid, has the new Ambush ability. In my opinion, its greater value relies on how cheap it is to summon, just three points of Mana. It’s also a Sneak Melee Monster, which makes it a great partner for Tarsa, who buffs Melee attacks. You can get good battle value from this card already at level one, however, at level three you get one extra point of Speed, making him quite fast. Your choice. Battle Link

  • Torch Vizier: not particularly mesmerized by this Monster, but it is a good acquisition for your Fire Splinter, since its not a fast Splinter. Well, the Torch Vizier is a fast Rare card with four points of Speed and relatively cheap to summon, five points of Mana. She’s good at level one, but at level two, she gets one extra point of Melee attack, which in combination with Tarsa, makes her quite a dangerous Opportunity Monster.

Death Splinter

  • Chaos Animator: when I saw this card I immediately thought of the Cursed Windeku, Monster with Thorns, since the Chaos Animator possesses the Amplify effect and, one of my favorite things in this game is to find ways of associating cards. Well, even though this card doesn’t have an attack, it could be a nice addition to your Death deck, since it’s cheap to summon and it allows you to weapon train her, with the Moxian Rebel for example. That little point of Armor is not to be overlooked either. You can get her at level one, however, at level three she gets Void, which could save your life in those battles with little Mana. Your choice.

  • Chaos Jailer: I got to say that the Rare Death Monsters from the Rebellion set are quite good, but the one that definitely stands out is the Chaos Jailer. At level one is just another Monster with Opportunity and yes, Ambush, but with a very weak attack. However, at level two it gets Poison, which increases its value quite a lot. This is a great card to get rid quite fast of those weak Health cards that drag the attention away from the other Monsters, but since they have a high Armor, they require a couple of extra hits to kill… examples would be the Clockwork Aide, the Dumacke Orc, etc. If you’re able to poison them in the first round, you’ll get rid of them in the second one. Remember, level two.

Special mention for the Helheim Demon. It has Taunt and it can Fly, quite a useful card. Battle Link

Life Splinter

  • Meriput Magician: I wouldn’t say that any of the Life Splinter Common cards stand out, but I think is worth it, to acquire this one. Why? Because it’s a Tank Healer and although we already have a Healer in the form of the Venari Crystalsmith, this one requires five points of Mana to be summoned. So, you can use one with the Odds One Out rule and the other with the Even Stevens rule. One is a Ranged attacker, the other one is Magical, so again, in the right rule the Meriput may be a better or your only choice, since its quite different from the Venari. Plus, if you combine both of their healing capabilities with a Monster with Taunt, like Iziar, you could create an undying card. She’s good to go at level one. Battle Link

  • Anachron Bolter: among the Rare cards, the one that definitely stands out is this one. Its mixed Ranged and Magic attacks, though appealing, are not what I like. What I like is the Headwinds effect it has, (reduces Ranged attacks by one point) which is not common to come by at level one, making her quite valuable in any team. And although her attacks are not strong, it’s a good thing to know that whatever happens, she can be in the first position using her Magic. Besides, she has a good deal of Health points, plus Armor. Expensive to summon, but a great asset in the right ruleset. She’s good to go at level one.

And at last, …

The same way that the Core Chaos Edition had their one Mana Monsters, one for each Splinter, the Rebellion Edition also has this Monsters, only this time, they cost two points of Mana to summon.

Unlike their predecessors, these cards don’t need to reach level three to acquire their effects, you can use them at level one, so it is up to you what level they reach. Unlike the ones from the Chaos set, these group of cards cannot attack, but they have abilities which penalize in different ways those Monsters that dare to attack them.

Row.png

Also, remember that now, not having an attack, is not a significant liability, since you can weapon train them with the Moxian Rebel, for example. Actually, I should say they were made specifically for that, since at max level they get abilities that could only be triggered by a Monster with an attack.

Although all these cards would be considered “Bronze level cards”, you can certainly use some of them in Silver or even Gold league, with effective results. My Referral Link
