Several crypto reporting websites have announced that John McAfee has launched an app, John McAfee's Bitcoin Play, that is styled as a trivia game, from which you can earn Bitcoin if you are a good player.  The gameplay is similar to "Who Wants to be a Millionaire", with four multiple choice answers to select from.  There are also three lifelines available to be used if you get stuck.  I just downloaded the app, and finished playing the game...here's what I learned:

1. Earn Satoshi by answering questions correctly

You have 10 seconds to answer each question.  Answering the first question correctly will earn you 3 Satoshis.  The second correct answer will give you 6, the third will give you 9, then 18, 30, 45, etc.

2. If you get stuck...

You can use one of three lifelines available to you:

  • Skip question
  • 50/50 (takes away two of the wrong answers)
  • Extend time (gives you 30 more seconds to answer the question)

Each lifeline can only be used once per day.  There is an opportunity to refill used lifelines, but I was not able to test what is required.  I would assume that it costs some of the Satoshis that you earned in order to have new lifelines.

3. Multiple opportunities to play daily

The game ends when you answer incorrectly, but there are  25 opportunities to play the game each day.  You are forced to watch an ad in between games.  All the Satoshi that you earn are added cumulatively when you play.  I'm not certain if you are able to add to your score from the previous day, but I'll let you know as soon as I find out.

4. Is there a catch?

I was unable to confirm if indeed the game pays out based on my first time playing.  The reason is because the withdraw option requires a minimum withdrawal of 40,000 Satoshis (roughly $2.26 at time of writing).

My first impression is that this is another type of Bitcoin faucet (complete with ads), although this one requires a wide range of trivia knowledge in order to be successful.  I'll post an update when I learn more about this app.
