As I had mentioned in previous blog posts, I am still in the process of discovering local breweries and distilleries. It is a tough job, but I'm making sure that I do some orders around here and there to make sure that I can sample the goods across a wide array of locals.
I was crazily fond of the Wild Brumby schnapps that I had ordered nearer to the middle of the year. I even gave a few bottles of them as a present to friends and colleagues and they were quite impressed by the quality of the schnapps! So, definitely a good one.... but I can't stick always to the same thing and still be exploring... even if it is crazily good! That said, I am almost out of the schnapps so, I will likely do another order soon!
So, a few days ago, I received this order from the Canberra Distillery... a bit of local support! A batch of three bottles... two relatively safe choices in the coffee liqueur and the limoncello, and new (for me) taste in the Negroni. Speaking of which, I will need to put the limoncello in the fridge to have a bit of a taste for later! On the other hand, I am more partial to having these drinks with a touch of ice (on the rocks, as it is called!).... even if it does dilute the drink a bit. I had seen some really cool rocks that help chill the drink without diluting it... perhaps that will be a great Christmas present for myself!
Anyway, my wife and I started off with the Negroni... a slightly bitter liqueur that probably should be served up with a touch of orange. Well, that is what I had read on the world wide internetz.... But for the first time, just with a little bit of ice to get the full flavour... and eating some dark chocolate to go with it. Actually, with the chocolate, it was a perfect mix... by itself, it was okay... but I do prefer the sweeter spirits for after dinner!
Oh... so, there is actually serving suggestions on the back of the bottle. Probably should have read that before serving it up! I will do that next time... a dash of soda, a wedge of orange... and a burnt stick of cinnamon... well, that might just be a powdered cinnamon there at the end, I'm not sure I want to go to the effort of burning a stick of cinnamon every time I want a little nightcap!
