Sometimes, when I'm away working on tour, I have the good luck to be put in a serviced apartment instead of a hotel room. Now, there are definitely advantages and disadvantages to both... but one of the perks of a serviced apartment is the fact that you can cook for yourself and save quite a bit of money in comparison to eating out. Of course, I do love eating out... hence all those TravelFeed restaurant posts! However, after the third night in a row of eating out... I start to feel quite bloated and looking forward to just cooking for myself.

Cooking whilst you are travelling is a different challenge. You often don't have all the things that you need to cook a decent meal, and you are sort of winging it with making do with the random little bits that you have. So, it can make for some really really strange meals... something that I'm not so fussed about, but my wife is sometimes horrified!

There is also the challenge of grocery shopping when you only have a few days in each place... you can't really take everything with you, and most things aren't really suited to travelling... ice-cream and butter in the suitcase is not great... and bottles of jam can be potentially a stick disaster!

Anyway, this meal that will likely be repeated a few times this week wasn't too bad... it is a strange mix of things, but oddly enough, it sort of works... well, better than some of the random disasters that I've had on tour!

Everything is cooked in salted butter, as it at least gives some taste in comparison to the unsalted stuff, and means that I don't need to add salt. Unfortunately, there are no herbs to cook with, and oil is next to impossible to buy in small enough quantities.

So, fresh chorizos is the meat portion of the meal... ahhh, it has been nice to come back to Australia and be exposed to really great cuts and portions of meat again... I have really missed it, and it is quite noticeably better than pretty much anything that you can get easily in Europe!

When it came time to finish of the sausages with a touch of water and a closed lid, I added the Chinese Broccoli. It is my nod to the requirement of having at least some vegetables in the meal! I could have added more... and I will do it with more this evening.

The bulk of the meal is provided by the sweet potato gnocchi that I saw on the shelves... originally I had planned just to use pasta, but who can turn down gnocchi? And I've never had sweet potato gnocchi either, so there was no choice but to get it!

Finally, there is a fried egg... because, I had bought eggs on a whim... and now I think that I am going to need to eat lots of them whenever I can before the week runs out! The dangers of shopping when hungry and distracted....

So, due to the quantities of things involved... it is likely that I will be eating a variant of this sort of meal for the rest of the week. That is a decided disadvantage of cooking whilst travelling... but it also means that I eat for the whole week at a similar price to a single night's dinner at a restaurant... and that means that I get to keep that lovely overpriced and tax free per diem (food allowance) to spend on nicer things... like a Steam Deck!

Sadly, breakfast isn't included in the serviced apartment either... lucky for me... I have lots of eggs to eat... I will be stocking up on those for quite some time! I'm not entirely sure that I will be able to finish everything that I bought this time around, I got a little bit carried away when I was shopping... sadly, I hadn't eaten all day when I did that... and that always leads to very bad food shopping decisions!

Now that I've written this, I'm curious to see if there is a travelling food kit that I can travel with. Something that means that I can travel with a small amount of dried herbs and some oil for cooking... that is also safe for travelling in suitcases (no chance of having crazily oily clothes...)? I'm heading online to look for something now!

Bitfinex: Ahhh... another oldie, but a goodie exchange. Most noted for the close affiliation with USDT and the Basic "no-KYC" tier!
