To whoever thinks that working for Congress is easy and a task that anyone can do, I have some oceanfront property in Arizona for you to buy. Being a kid from Texas Washington DC is an alien planet. Even the people that I have met from Cali and New York agree that Washington DC manages to take all the crazy awful types of people and stick them in the same city. Hindsight is always 20/20 but I now understand why the people that I enjoy being around leave DC at least once a month to spend at least a weekend in another place not answering any emails or texts.
DC is a hard place to live in and deal with 24/7 as it is a high-stress environment, to say the least. Even when you are not at work you are surrounded by people who you have to work with or interact with and so you maintain being uptight unless you are really in your own house/apartment where you can decompress a little. Tomorrow I finally will be leaving DC for the first time since early August to go back home to Texas for 12 days. This trip is not near as long as I would like or want but it is not something that I control as Congress will be in session next week and I will be working remotely for the first time.
While it is far from ideal and I will have to work throughout the week it will be nice to escape what to me is the artic. Texas's weather is shaping up to be a lot warmer than in DC so I will be much much happier than I would be otherwise! Taking a break from the stress I know will do me good and allow me to recharge and reset for the New Year when my Committee becomes the majority and thus I get a ton of new tasks added to my daily list. For now though I am going to pack and fly out tomorrow and really ground myself and focus on my family back home!
