IOTA's 2019 year was like a rollercoaster. Publishing Trinity, announced Coordicide which pushed the price up to 50 cents and dropped to 20 cents till the end of the year. But no matter of the ups and downs, IOTA ignored the price action and focused on building and making new partnerships. And as usual, they managed to bring big partners on board. Of all partnerships, I've tried to pick the top 5 partnerships based on the partner(number of employees, public reputation, yearly sales, etc) and which impact the partnership will have on the IoT industry.
Let's get started.
Number of employees: 1000
Yearly sales: 155 Million USD
Zühlke is a tech company located in Schwitzerland which builds software for customers. What makes Zühkle interesting is their "Machine as a Service" solution. Instead of companies needing to purchase entire machines to produce goods and service, the MaaS system allows companies to lend machines from others and only pay for the use of the machine.
This system can be very beneficial since:
- freshly started companies don't have enough money to purchase machines.
- it reduces risk of losing money if the purchased machine is not productive
- it allows companies to lend out their own machines
On the 1st October 2019 Zühlkle officially announced their partnership with IOTA. With the help with IOTA they are planning to build an efficient infrastructure for lending machines between companies.
Number of employees: 8500
Yearly sales: 800 Million USD
On the 29th November last year, EDAG announced their CityBot concept with IOTA. With the help of CityBot EDAG plans to build a machine to machine city ecosystem where IOT devices communicate with each other to help people by cleaning up the city, transporting goods and so on. IOTA is planned to be used as the data layer and as a payment system.
3. Jaguar Land Rover
Number of employees: 40000
Yearly sales: 30 Billion USD
The car company Jaguar Land Rover announced on the 29th of April last year their partnership with IOTA. With the help of IOTA, Jaguar is looking forward to implement the Tangle technology into their cars. Car drivers can earn (M)IOTA by sending collected street data to the tangle while driving. Data includes weather information, current car accidents, potholes, traffic etc. The earned (M)IOTAS can then be used to pay for example a parking spot or to pay for a coffee. With the Tangle implementation, Land Rover wants to create an incentive to be rewarded for making streets a safer place.
Number of employees: 46000
Yearly sales: 10 Billion USD
STMicroelectronics is one of the biggest semiconductor producers worldwide. They are known for their microchip STM32, which is used in all sorts of IoT devices such as washing machines, smart fridges, smartphones etc. In order to program the STM32 chip, STMicroelectronics uses the STM32 cube software. On the 23rd of July last year, they announced that they are working on a software update of the cube software. In the new version of their software, they are planning to integrate the IOTA technology so that the STM32 chips can send and receive data from the tangle in real time.
1. Dell Technologies and Linux Foundation
Number of employees: 157000 (Dell), 1000 (Linux Foundation)
Yearly sales: 90 Billion USD (Dell)
On the 28th October 2019 last year IOTA announced the collaboration with the tech giant DELL technologies and the Linux foundation. Together with Linux and Dell they are working on the project "Alvarium". The aim of Alvarium is to build an infrastructure to validate if data can be trusted. The result of the project is a marketplace where data is being sold. It's like amazon but instead of selling goods, data is being sold and instead of the rating system how good the product is, this rating system is about if the data can be trusted or not.
As always, IOTA keeps continuing making big partnerships to build their infrastructure further. Do you agree with my top 5? Do you think some other partnership is better? Let me know!
