As some of you may know I recently joined the Steemit platform. Which is a decentralized social media platform where you can make some money. So right off the bat, I did some research by checking out their trending page. There were good full of information articles. Also, there were non informative short posts like just posting the price of different cryptocurrencies every day and those posts have made $50 to $100 a post.
So I thought, man 100 bucks just for logging the Bitcoin price. I can do that too. So I started posting Bitcoin price with a screenshot of the chart. The next day I checked my account. I had 0 upvotes and 0 dollars. I thought it's just because I was new and I needed to collect some followers or something. So I continued to post bitcoin price as well as some other stuff. Suddenly one day I saw I had new notifications. I thought I might have made some money.
So I opened up the notification tab and realized my posts had been flagged as spam. This was a huge surprise to me. When old users post such posts it's ok but when a new user like me posts the price of Bitcoin, it is a low-value post and considered as spam. I thought to myself man this is just unjust. It's not fair. But I can't do anything about that other than stop posting such posts because I don't want to get blacklisted. So I stopped posting those little posts.
Then I found another way people making upto $10 a post by just uploading one photo and titling it as "category of the photo" with a number. Some members have made more than 100s of posts like that. So I tried the same. Took my phone and captured some beautiful natural pictures and titled them differently. But to my surprise, I got a comment from the account that flagged my posts as spam saying "posting only one or two pictures without any context is considered as spam here." I'm like done it. Again it's not fair allowing old users to do things that are considered as spam but when newbies do it they get flagged and warned.
Am I wrong to think this Steemit platform is unfair? At least in my experience. Anyhow I can't do anything about my old posts. Now I try to post only informative posts and articles. I'm going to give it some time and decide whether to use it or not in the long run. I think for Steemit to grow as a platform it needs to CLEARLY inform users when they sign up what is allowed and not allowed in the platform. Also, they need to treat both old and new users equally at least when it comes to rules about posting.
This is just my opinion and feel free to comment your thoughts down below.
