Planting a Minnie Royal Semi-dwarf Cherry tree

By Solominer | Solominer | 1 Feb 2020

I have considered buying some fruit trees for the last few years. And settled on Cherry trees. During the winter I planted a Minnie Royal Sweet Cherry tree. And a Black Tartarian Cherry tree earlier this winter. From what ive read they are very hardy and can be planted at any time in more mild winter climates.

I dug out the holes a few weeks earlier and filled them in with hardwood mulch. When I got the tree I pulled out most of the mulch and placed the Cherry tree inside and then back filled it. I brought the mulch back into the hole around the cherry tree. Hoping it will break down into rich soil. Im a little worried it may dry out too much, but luckily we have had steady showers this winter keeping it moist.

The tree is only about three feet tall, so im guessing only a year or two old. Hoping in the next few years they flower and keeping my fingers crossed they line up with the Mason Bees emergence in late February through March.

I have two more Cherry trees on the way, making a total of four. I may eventually have too many Cherries but I think thats a good problem to have. I really enjoy eating them with peanut butter as snacks, and we have machines that pop out the seeds easily so looking forward to many in the next few years. In about one more month I should be receiving my Stella Sweet Cherry trees which will complete my plans for the moment for fruit trees. I may buy a few Apple trees later as I still have a few spots on my small property to fill in. Need to focus on bushes and shrubs in the future but I think the fruit trees should be first priority as they take the longest to grow.
