A Decentralized Wallet for the Future of Web3?

AA Decentralized Web3 wallet that has it all?

When we look back over the past 10,000 or so years of human history, we find that the bulk of governments that have arisen to exert influence over us have been overwhelmingly totalitarian in nature. Prior to systems of government becoming a fixture in our day-to-day lives, we were hunter-gatherers who roamed about the land picking plants and throwing spears at tasty animals for our daily sustenance.

Then came the invention of agriculture and the former gatherers of nature's bounty became tied to the land they tilled and became blessed with abundance they had hitherto not known, which made them the target of roving bands of thugs. To prevent robbery and destruction of their newfound wealth the early humans struck a deal with the devils of statism to give a portion of their labor in exchange for protection (taxation) which gave the plunder and wealth extraction a cloak of legitimacy and the yoke of bureaucracy was placed upon their dirty necks. This arrangement has been in place with few exceptions over the past millennia which has largely been characterized as periods of "boot upon thy peasant neck" for the bulk of our experience with fleeting moments of true freedom interspersed in small amounts.

Now fast forward to today, where the banksters have their boot upon our peasant necks in the form of Centralized Finance. We are beholden to the powers that be and suffer so many problems from this abusive relationship. From excessive fees when we need to borrow money to fund a business to being stranded and without access to our finances because we fell afoul of the bureaucrats and they decided we backed the wrong protest (as I detailed with the Canadian truckers in On Fiat, Fascism, & Freedom Issue One. These problems are why I look to decentralized systems that can protect us from these abuses and put the power and control of money back in our hands -- where it belongs -- no matter how messy the end result.

One of things that interest me greatly is the promise that Web3 offers in giving us back control of our assets, whether those assets are in the form of cryptocurrency, or in the form of our art or even our very identities.

From the Tally Ho blog, here's Michael Haley on why Web3 is so powerful in this fight for our freedom:

If centralized tech platforms are slowly poisoning society, web3 technology can be a powerful antidote. The only cure for centralization is decentralization. That’s why the Tally Ho team is joining other builders in the web3 space to establish a self-sovereign, grassroots paradigm from the ground up.

By replacing the systems that support the concentration of power, we can render obsolete the centralized platforms that control so much of our tangible and intangible property. In their place, we can build systems that support a self-sovereign economy of ownership: one in which individuals, not companies or states, control their own assets, identities, and data.

In this decentralized world, people can choose to share personal information, choose to spend time in online environments, and even choose to monetize their data. They can choose which parts of culture, business, and finance they want to participate in, and which to abstain from, based on their own needs and preferences, not those of powerful organizations.

That’s what it’s all about: self-sovereignty, privacy, freedom, and, above all, the right to choose.

In the political sphere, we call this decentralized, bottom-up model democracy, in contrast to centralized, top-down dictatorships or oligarchies. There is no reason this framework cannot also apply to technology. In fact, it gives us the chance to create a healthier, more dynamic, fairer, and freer world – an opportunity to choose to invest our resources in ourselves and our communities, rather than turning them over to the powers that be.

You know, I gotta admit - I like the cut of this cat's jib. That pretty much sums up our situation and what is staring us in the face in the fight for our autonomy. What's at stake is how free we will be in the future and we really need to embrace the solutions that will carry us out of the bondage of totalitarianism to the promised land of actually being in control of our money, assets and identities.

What are the features of the Tally Ho wallet?

First of all, Tally Ho is a fair-launched, decentralized, and community controlled wallet that is designed to move us forward in DeFi. How is "community controlled?" Well, even though the history of DAOs (Digital Autonomus Organizations) is beset with peril - especially with what happened with the first DAO on Ethereum - they are still an amazing solution going forward. Here's Tally Ho's Michael Haley on his thoughts about the promise of DAOs and Web3 along with the problems that we may encounter:

DAOs are not a panacea. Many people who’ve worked in them will tell you that the experience can be borderline chaotic. Still, if properly designed, DAOs hold out the promise of providing all community members with a chance to participate in decision-making processes. And because DAOs are built on smart contracts, the code that runs these processes is publicly visible and auditable at all times.

As the world becomes more familiar with the tools to create and manage DAOs, these organizations will continue to proliferate, uniting communities of individuals with common ideas, values, and visions. DAOs can allow people to organize their efforts based on openness, transparency, and decentralization: the core values of blockchain technology.

Who is Tally Ho working with these days?

One of the big reasons I have my eye on Tally Ho - and they are many since I love DeFi - is that they are involved with some major players in this space. From Compound to Curve and even a name that everyone in crypto is familiar with: Uniswap, there can be no doubt that this Web3 wallet has a future going forward with these projects and names behind it. They are even boasting about having community-driven Ledger support and that is a big selling point on why you should think about using this wallet which is the security that that would bring.

If you would like to try out the Tally Ho wallet you can use this link here to download it and it works with major browsers like Chrome and Firefox.

I think the fact the that fees are lower with this wallet than its major competitors. Some people are even referring to it as a Metamask killer considering that the fees are literally half as much (0.5% versus 1.0%) so that is definitely something that piqued my interest since I hate paying fees to anyone.

Should you use the Tally Ho wallet?

As will all newer projects always be careful with your crypto assets and do not just put everything you have into an untested wallet or technology, but I think that Tally Ho shows great promise and I will use it and continue to write about it in the future. I am hopeful that as a user we will be airdropped some the native token of the project ($DOGGO) in the future and I really like the lower fees and decentralized nature as well as the attitudes of the people behind it.
