Connecting with the first step
After discussing the beginning of the journey towards your best self, today we pause to explore who you truly are. Success, however tempting it may seem, loses its meaning if it is not rooted in an authentic self.
Questions that matter
Many of us pursue achievements or recognition without asking: “What truly gives my life meaning?” Taking the time to listen to what you genuinely feel is not easy, but it is essential. In psychology, self-awareness is considered the foundation of inner balance and healthy relationships. Carl Rogers spoke of aligning who you feel you are with how you present yourself to the world. When this alignment is missing, frustration and anxiety often follow.
Discovering through experimentation
It’s not enough to simply think about who you are; you need to explore and experience. Try new activities, notice what makes you lose track of time, or what brings you deep joy. A friend of mine had spent years in a demanding job, believing she had achieved success, only to realise that it did not reflect her true values. As she began making choices aligned with her passions and desires, she rediscovered her energy and daily sense of fulfilment.
Accepting yourself
Sometimes, discovering who you are involves acknowledging your limits and imperfections. I’ve been through periods where I tried to be “perfect” for others, chasing an image that didn’t represent me. Only when I allowed myself to recognise what I truly felt and wanted did I begin to feel the freedom to grow authentically.
Today’s challenge
Take a few minutes today to reflect on what genuinely matters to you. Note down three things that define you beyond roles, status, or appearances. Observe the emotions that arise and how your body feels. This small act of introspection is a concrete step towards aligning with your authentic self.
