“Will I Ever Be Good Enough” Review

''Will I ever be Good enough'' is a book written by Ph.D Karyl McBride on how maternal narcissism impacts the lives of specially daughters of said mothers and how to heal the emotional wounds caused. As a transgender man born to a now deceased narcissistic mother I found comfort in knowing that my mom wasn’t narcissistic because she didn’t want me to transition and instead that until she passed she still saw me as that daughter to mold.  It’s a bit ironic that this book helped me transition from feeling like transgender boy to feeling like a Man despite the fact that if focuses on girls becoming women.Just wish this book was written in a gender neutral way so more trans men and maybe even non-binary individuals who also have had this type of mom would be more receptive to reading this book. It really had been a eye awakening experience to read and a great guide to start to grieve my mother. I wish I had known about this book when my mom passed away almost three years ago.

In response to reviews I have seen saying this book was worthless because it only tells you to journal, to some of us we need the guidance of journal prompts to get started. Only the last third of the book mentions using a journal. The first part focuses on experiences that daughters of narcissistic mothers and part two focuses on recognizing the problems that daughters of narcissistic mothers feel from the direct experiences. I recommend it as a great book for all survivors of narcissistic mothers. I feel this would be great in a group therapy reading group environment. It would not cover everything that you need to fully recover but it gives great hope for those just starting to heal from a narcissistic childhood.
