Back to 2008

I'm sure that I'm not the only one fantasizing about going back to 2008 with the current knowledge.

The appealing idea that crosses my mind is how many BTC I would mine and buy, and how I would be "the smartest guy in the room (bitcointalk forum)".

But some questions cross my mind: Would I provoke a butterfly effect where I would be centralizing the network if I mined with GPU's too early? Would other people invest in it, knowing that I already own more BTC than Satoshi?

Those were the moments I humbled down. Those were the question that made me think of what would I do if I ever got the chance to get in a situation like that. It's fun to think about it.

Discussing the same topic with some friends, I saw they wouldn't humble down in this situation. One friend said that he would wait for Satoshi to put The whitepaper out, and knowing the exact date of it happening, he would write: "Yo, Satoshi ;)"

The other friend said that he would steal the idea and make it before Satoshi did.

I instantly saw the pattern. People want to be God-like or at least imprinted in history.

That was the moment when I started appreciating Satoshi even more. Satoshi made one of the most important innovations in history. If we knew who he is, he would be one of the most famous people in the world. He is one of the wealthiest people in the world, yet, he doesn't spend that value.

While admiring Satoshi, four though come to my mind:

  1. he must be dead
  2. he's a "no-cape hero"
  3. he/they have an evil plan that we can't understand yet
  4. he could be an unbelievably evolved AI.

I hope the second though is the true one.

Now, other questions popped into my head. Even if I had the power to go back in time, and know the incoming future, what would Satoshi want me to do? How would I present myself to him? Would I try to contact him personally, or would it be better to be just a member of the forum, giving some insightful thoughts and predictions?

Since this is the first time I wrote my thought on this topic, I can say I've spent more than three years thinking about it.

My father always said: "Don't help people that are not seeking help.". And he's right. Many times I tried to help people, and their response was anything but thankful.

My father's wisdom is the reason why, in that situation, I would start as a forum member. Imagine having the ability to prevent Mt.Gox. Would you do it? Was Mt.Gox a valuable lesson to all? If you could prevent the Mt.Gox hack, would there be another one even bigger?

Then there is a temptation to own as many BTC as I possibly could. Imagine getting 10k BTC for some pizza. Yet, that was a major event in crypto history. I imagine it would be better to open a pizzeria than a mining farm :)

But again, would my extensive BTC buying destroy the market? There is a chance that some important events in crypto wouldn't happen just because I bought the 10k BTC that were meant to be bought by an influencer that introduced 10000 new people to Bitcoin. Something that I would not be capable of doing.

This automatically triggers the question: "How much BTC do I need to be happy and fulfilled in life?"

And another question: "Is my happiness the only thing I seek in life knowing that I have enough money to open businesses which would help employ other people and families?

Building a few mining farms and "only-crypto" shopping malls would also be a meaningful contribution to the network and the global and local economy."

After all these questions, I made up my mind about what I would do.

As I said, I would be a forum member. I would give hints to people. Those who want to hear will hear. Those who don't, wouldn't read those hints anyway. I would help clear the bugs and share solutions to already known problems. I would be a good guy fighting for this new tech. Probably many people in the crypto community would do the same.

While writing this down, another thought crossed my mind. I'm not a maximalist. I believe some altcoins could be just as revolutionary as Bitcoin is right now. Bitcoin isn't the end of blockchain technology. Whatsoever, it's the beginning of it.

At this moment, there is an altcoin, or maybe even a few of them, that need the same help and support from their community as Bitcoin needed at its beginnings.

And poofff...! New questions pop up: "What am I doing to support it? Am I missing the opportunity of being part of a new coin that has similar potential as Bitcoin?

Maybe the first time you missed the opportunity to get early in Bitcoin because you were in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong people.

But now, you are here, in the earliest moment the future can offer you!

Many new projects are in their's "2008", and many new devs have clear visions on how to ennoble Satoshi's ideas. You have the opportunity of becoming the next "early adopter". Find them and help them!

Thank you Satoshi!
