I'm not usually one who spends hours streaming movies or TV shows every night. I don't really even watch too much television, maybe an hour or so at night. But the other night I actually watched something, something brand new at that. Mr. Harrigan's Phone is an adaptation of a Stephen King novella of the same name, first released in 2020. The story follows a young man who is chosen by chance by recluse billionaire John Harrigan to read books to him, as the old man's vision is failing.
As you can see, it is a pretty typical Stephen King-based movie with the small town setting and mysterious, seemingly supernatural characters. I've very much been a fan of most of his stories that get adapted for the big screen: from Creepshow to The Mist. For me, Mr. Harrigan's Phone is a solid hit. What I like about this one is that it makes you think and provides a powerful social commentary. It made think of how I reacted when smart phone first came out and how peoples' behavior has gradually changed over the years. Moreover, it really made me ponder about young folks spend their time and how drastically different it is nowadays for teenagers than it was when I was coming up.
Anyway, I don't want to give away too much but it was a good watch. I give it a 7 out of 10, and would definitely give it a second run.
