Splinterlands Challenge of the Week: Melee from Anywhere!

By RealSociology | Retire by 50 | 25 Aug 2023

This week's Battle Mage rule set challenge was Melee Monsters Only in which melee monsters may attack from anywhere, as it says on the tin!

Melee Monsters general strategy....

if you want to go on the attack, then pick one of the buffing melee monsters such as Tarza or Darla, and of course Inspire!

And you don't have to bother with sneak and opportunity monsters as anything can attack from anywhere!

Defensive strategies are probably even more important, so plenty of shields and repair, and of course thorns, so Mylar springs to mind!

Having said all of that you can just IGNORE this ruleset and play a normal deck, as we both did in the battle below...

Melee from anywhere battle exemplar

The battle below shows a battle in which I win with pretty much paying the ruleset no head!

Mana and rulesets:

  • 16
  • Knockout, unprotected and melee from anywhere!

Screenshot 2023-08-24 at 18.49.02.png

  • Crypt Beatle - a decent low mana tank with shield
  • Corpse Fiend - 0 mana for a low mana battle
  • screaming banshee - 2 magic for 3 mana, nice! and blast!
  • undead priest - another low mana card!
  • Soul Strangler - my main damage card
  • Vruz - brining up the rear with sneak.

The battle...

  • round 1 - BOOM! Vruz takes out the halving alchemist and then the Chicken dies to blast, I also take out Lord A.
  • round 2 - it's all over.... Blighty goes down!

Final battle analysis

In low mana battles, always try and fill yer deck with six cards and try to get SOMETHING with more than one damage in case of shield!

Melee from Anywhere final thoughts...

If in doubt just ignore the ruleset?!?

In the summer of 2014, when I turned 41, I set myself the goal of retiring from paid-work by the age of 52. This blog charts my own strategy and progress, and explores different theories of financial independence and 'extreme early retirement'. It also provides the odd tip on how you might also retire early!
