Splinterlands Challenge of the Week: Dragons

By RealSociology | Retire by 50 | 3 Oct 2022

This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase anything from the Dragon Splinter so I opted for this new BEAST of a card...

OK it is VERY heavy on the mana demand, but starting off with five damage, 6 shields and 11 health this is a monster of a tank when combined with heal and repair, especially given the void shield.

The battle below features a Level 1 Long Tail in a drawn out fatigue victory!

The Rule Set and Line Up

  • Mana cap 30
  • Standard Rules apply (Bronze League!)

Summoner - Kitty

  1. Agor Longtail - just trying him out!
  2. Kenzo - anti blast with the taunt in front
  3. Scavo Hireling - for repair
  4. Mershal Gaurdian - more heal!

Did my strategy work?

Beautifully, to see it in action click here!

  • Round 1 - We trade blows for no loss, and both teams repair and heal kick into action to make up for our mutual losses. The differences in speed mean my opponent misses me three times this round!
  • Round 2 - the same as above, except two misses on me!
  • Rounds 3-20 - repeats above locked into this damage repair cycle
  • Round 21 - now fatigue kicks in and I'm gonna win wih the higher health monster!

How important was Agor Longtail?

Well he won on the back of having more health than any other monster, but given that my opponent gave me a run for my money with his lower powered cards I'd say this shows that, for the mana, this card is NOT economical.

And without the backup of two heals and a repair he would have been hopeless, and it took all my remaining mana to get this support in place.

So he won it, but I'm not impressed.

Final Thoughts: Agor Longtail - worth buying?

I'm going to say NO - along with many of the Riftwatchers cards they are just too high in mana to be able to play.

And this card in particular offers you little over other cards with much lower MANA - I mean Lord A has 4 buffs at max for just five MAMA for example, Legionnaire Alva is more economical, just about anything is more economical than this card in fact.

Even with 30 mana you're struggling to play this with decent back up cards.

So this is a very low priority to card to own and level for me.

If you don't yet play Splinterlands, why not give it a go?

This blog charts my own strategy and progress, and explores different theories of financial independence and 'extreme early retirement'. It also provides the odd tip on how you might also retire early!
