By RealSociology | Retire by 50 | 13 Feb 2023

This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase Dax Paragon from the Life Splinter.

This is pretty loveable and useful card, low mana and one magic damage, with three health.

The battle below features a Level 1 Dax although he didn't really do too much TBH!

The Rule Set and Line Up

  • Mana cap 27
  • Standard Rules apply (Bronze League!)

Summoner - Illian Plus one speed and return fire, NICE!

  1. Shieldbearer - fairly standard taunt strategy for Life with mid to high mana battles
  2. Scorch Fiend 0 Mana filler
  3. Dax! The feature card, one magic damage
  4. Venari Crystalsmith - healer and one ranged damage
  5. Brightwing - useful repair and two magic damage
  6. Celestial harpy - the best two mana card I could find to bring up the rear with one ranged damage.

Did my strategy work?

Beautifully, to see it in action click here!

  • Round 1 - Boom! Return Fire works wonderfully to take out my opponent's two back row cards and the celestial harpy takes out the Serpentine Spy.
  • Round 2 - A collective effort takes out another two of my opponent's cards.
  • Round 3 - it's all over!

How important was Dax?

TBH he barely got a look in... the return fire did most of the work thanks to the summoner, and Shieldbearer remained untouched because of shields and repair.

Still, a win is a win so happy days!

Final Thoughts: Dax - worth buying?

I've got a soft spot for Dax, it's the arrogant superhero thing I think, however he's not that useful down at lower levels, he doesn't fit the Life META of repair, heal, taunt tank very well.

However at higher levels you get A LOT for two mana - 2 damage and two buffs and high health, so if you're playing at Diamond or above this looks super useful!

This blog charts my own strategy and progress, and explores different theories of financial independence and 'extreme early retirement'. It also provides the odd tip on how you might also retire early!
