This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase the Crypt Beetle from the Death Splinter...

This is a useful low mana card, with three mana giving you shield from the outset with 1 shield and 2 health, although attack and speed are both as low as they can be at L1!
The battle below features a Level 1 Morphoid, played with Mylor to give him thorns in a relatively low mana battle....
The Rule Set and Line Up
- Mana cap 12
- Standard Rules apply (Bronze League!)

Summoner - Waka
- Crypt Beetle
- Corpse Fiend - a second tank or opportunity fodder.
- The Chicken - more snipe or opportunity fodder (sorry chicken!)
- Scavo Hireling - to repair
- Wierding Warrior - mainly for shatter.
- Chaos Agent - sneak and MORE opportunity fodder!
Did my strategy work?
Beautifully, to see it in action click here!
- Round 1 - First blood to my opponent as the Spy takes out my Corpse Fiend. I poison my opponent's tanks too!
- Round 2 - The Chicken dies to opportunity but I also take out his tank thanks to Poison and attack damage.
- Round 3 - Scavo goes but I poison my opponent's Spy - it's all over in the next round when the poison takes effect!
How important was The Crypt Beetle?
Not too shabby as a tank for a low mana round, but TBH the repair strategy didn't work out at all well - even with only two cards on attack from my opponent.
Equally as important at least were the two opportunity fodder cards, but the killer (quite literally) strategy was poison... TBH I should have combined this with opportunity or sneak myself, and stacked up the fodder cards at the front.
Final Thoughts: Crypt Beetle - worth buying?
He's cheap, but not that useful, and you have to be lucky with what your opponent plays to keep him alive for more than one round down in Bronze, but you can say that about most common L1 cards!
Personally I'd focus on buying some better rares or epics than this and spend more mana on a tank, for 3 mana this card doesn't really do enough to be that useful!
If you don't yet play Splinterlands, why not give it a go?
