You shall be Cocky today

You Shall Be A... uhm.. Chicken Today

A cocky chicken with fake arms

It is guaranteed that something bad is going to happen today. We know this because history shows us that bad things happen all the time, for the past 120 000 years, every day. Maybe not with you or nearby you today, but many people in the world will have a very bad day.

But what history also shows us is that more good things also happen, every day for the past 120 000 years. To you and with you, included.

Are you getting robbed in your driveway every day? No. So one robbery – that you survived – out of 2 billion robbery-free hours of your life are pretty good odds. Why focus on just that one hour? Rather learn from it in order to mentally strengthen you on how to deal with the next crisis in life. This is why some 'victims' managed to talk themselves out of a situation, and as a bonus talked the culprit into giving himself up.

How many other bad moments did you have in life, and you managed to get through all of it to make it till today, right? What were once huge obstacles for you, you so successfully conquered that you cannot even recall 99% of them today. You moved on, because you looked ahead instead of dwelling on the past.

So the moral of this story is, bad things will happen. Good things will happen too, more of them. Your happiness is determined by which one you prefer to focus on, and that focus is the one thing you have absolute control over. By forcing yourself to focus on positive things, you quite literally energize your mind, allowing it to deal more effectively with the inevitable drama that comes over everyone's life.

Cut out the toxic people in your life. Even family, and definitely those 'online friends only' on Facebook that poisons you with their constant focus on negative crap. If they don't offer solutions as well right there in their post where they moan about an issue, unfriend them. You need problem solvers in your life, not problem creators.

Stand each morning in front of the mirror, force yourself to fake a smile for 30 seconds, and say something aggressive – emotion is important during a pep talk – out loud to yourself. You can call it meditation or a motivational speech or whatever, but talk to the person you have to love most in life to get most out of life. Every successful person does so daily, and if you want to be a general, you need to start acting like a general to take control of your yard.

Be cocky out there.
