3% Cashback in Crypto Sounds Great — Here's What the Terms Actually Say (ether.fi Cash)

3% Cashback in Crypto Sounds Great — Here's What the Terms Actually Say (ether.fi Cash)

Most crypto card reviews sell you the headline number. This one starts with the fine print, because the fine print is where the money is.

Full 3-minute walkthrough: https://youtu.be/Brv198LdXn8

The numbers that matter

Cashback: up to 3% (4% at VIP), paid in ETHFI — a volatile token, not USD

Lock: rewards are locked 7 days, claimable from $5

Fees: $10 virtual card, $50 Core physical card

FX: 0% markup on euro spending ← the most underrated feature

Custody: non-custodial — funds in your own Vault contract, key in a Turnkey secure enclave (no seed phrase)

Coverage: physical cards ship to 90+ regions; US only some states; Canada excluded

Gotcha: since 15 September 2026, points reset monthly — no more rollover

Why the September change matters more than the 3%

Reward programmes get devalued. They almost never get better. A monthly point reset is the clearest possible signal that the economics are being tightened — and it happened quietly, in a product update, not a headline.

If you are evaluating any crypto card, look for what changed last quarter, not what the landing page promises today.

Non-custodial, but know what that means

Your funds sit in a smart contract you control, with the signing key in a secure enclave. No seed phrase, no exchange balance.

That removes custodial risk. It does not remove:

_            Smart contract risk (the vault code)

_            Issuer risk (the card programme runs under separate terms)

_            Token risk (your cashback is ETHFI)

And it is not a bank deposit — there is no deposit insurance.

Availability — check before you pay

The $50 physical card fee is non-trivial, and the shipping address cannot be changed after ordering. Confirm your region first: the US only issues physical cards in some states, and Canada is excluded.

How to apply

1.          Invite link — https://www.ether.fi/@2b2683d0 (code `2b2683d0`) → page shows "You've been invited!"

2.          Sign Up Today → Personal → email

3.          If asked, deposit $10 of crypto (withdrawable)

4.          KYC: phone, ID, selfie, address — most approvals within 48 hours

5.          Fund → Cash → Card → Add Card

6.          Activate + add to Apple Pay / Google Pay

7.          Spend → claim ETHFI cashback (7-day lock, from $5)

Verdict

Good fit if you already hold crypto, spend in euros, and want non-custodial exposure. Bad fit if you need deposit insurance, live in an unsupported region, or need your cashback to be stable in dollar terms.
