Contingent Staking pt.2

A red hot debate about Contingent Staking reasonableness bursts again after a string of tweets from IOG CEO Charles Hoskinson

This article is a direct follow up to my previous article about Contingent staking which you can view here.

Hoskinson in his Tweets opts for implementation of CS(Contingent Staking). He also tries to explain its non-obligatory nature, focusing on its strong sides and putting more fire under the pile of doubt of Cardano users.

The valid point that CH raised is perspective of SPOs as business owners and CS being a form of terms of service agreement embedded into blockchain.

User Layume20 raised concerns over potential abuse of Contingent Staking in the tweet below.

That abuse would be ability to create staking pools reserved to users advocating for a controversial or illegal activities such as QAnon.

Mass media view regarding this topic is a subject to study because it might stand for or against Cardano adoption.

Hoskinson came with a quick repartee to this tweet

What seems to be a bigger picture problem is the understanding of how exactly will CS affect normal users and SPOs that do not want to be involved in KYC staking activity. For part of community this solution is a direct way into censorship and reminds them of affair caused by OFAC compliance of Ethereum blocks produced.

What also seems to be a problem is potential scope of US law regarding staking pools and delegators if CS gets implemented.

For now handful of users consider CS a form of overregulation and a unnecessary tool that may be used to destroy equity and fairness of Cardano system.

 My thoughts

I hope that CS gets heavily reviewed by many specialists and will be adjusted accordingly with community demands. It may prove to be a powerful tool to boost Cardano usage across the world. For now it only seems to be a dividing point in how Cardano should evolve and what it stands for. Cardano is a vibrant and strong ecosystem and I hope that it will sort out the problem which is Contingent Staking state right now.
