Coindesk - Potential acquisition by Charles Hoskinson

Who is Charles Hoskinson?

Charles Hoskinson is an American entrepreneur who is a co-founder of the blockchain engineering company Input Output Global, Inc. (formerly IOHK), and the Cardano blockchain platform, and was a co-founder of the Ethereum blockchain platform.

What is CoinDesk?

CoinDesk is a news site specializing in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. CoinDesk also provides guides to bitcoin for those new to digital currencies. Founded by Shakil Khan, the site was subsequently acquired by DCG(Digital Currency Group).

What happened?

In order to understand why is acquisition of CoinDesk even an option we need to know who owns it. Current owner of CoinDesk is DCG(Digital Currency Group).DCG is a venture capital company, and like for many others, previous year wasn't kind.  DCG also owns Genesis, Grayscale Investments and Luno.

Following market implosion caused by FTX, Genesis, Grayscale and many others are currently at brink of collapse, and their parent company - DCG might wanna seek for funds in any available options to pay back the clients.

Recently on his Twitter and Youtube channel, Charles Hoskinson talked about potential acquisition of CoinDesk for approximately 200 million USD.

My thoughts

Being heavily associated with Cardano Blockchain, Hoskinson is vulnerable to backlash from other crypto communities.

Coindesk, being a news site, should be independent and news should not be influenced by any party or organization.

Only time will tell if Hoskinson decides to acquire CoinDesk and if the news posted on the site wont be influenced by its owner.
