There's been a lot of speculation lately about whether or not FTX was actually hacked, or if the CEO or someone else simply took our money. I'm here to set the record straight: FTX was definitely hacked, and the CEO or someone else definitely did take our money.

Here's what we know: on June 11th, 2020, FTX experienced a security breach that resulted in the loss of over $300 million in customer funds. The hacker(s) gained access to our systems and were able to transfer funds out of our hot wallets without being detected. We're still working to determine exactly how they were able to do this, but rest assured that we are taking all necessary steps to prevent it from happening again.

We have since reimbursed all affected customers and taken a number of steps to improve our security protocol. We have also put in place a number of new measures, including two-factor authentication for all withdrawals and increased monitoring of our systems.

I want to reassure everyone that your funds are safe with us and that we are doing everything in our power to prevent something like this from happening again. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

This occurred only in 2020, so let's fast-forward to November 2022 and ask, "What happened to the fucking protection?" The answer is simple: They stole our money to support their lifestyle. Case closed. Should we continue investing in these cryptocurrency exchanges that keep claiming to be hacked when it's clearly an inside job?

Today, it seems like every other week there’s a new headline about another cryptocurrency exchange getting hacked. Just this year, we’ve seen Bithumb, Coinrail, and Binance lose a combined $870 million to hacks. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg – over the past few years, there have been many more high-profile hacks, such as Mt. Gox (which lost $460 million), Bitfinex ($72 million), and Coincheck ($534 million).

With such a long list of exchanges getting hacked, it’s no wonder that many people are wondering if it’s even worth it to invest in cryptocurrencies anymore. After all, what’s the point of putting your money into an exchange if there’s a very real chance that it could all be stolen?

THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE: we need better protection for our crypto exchanges.

What Can Be Done?

There are a few things that can be done in order to improve the security of crypto exchanges and protect users' funds. Firstly, exchanges should implement more robust security measures, such as 2-factor authentication and multi-signature wallets. They should also keep a close eye on activity on their platforms and investigate any suspicious activity immediately. Additionally, users can take steps to protect themselves by only using trusted exchanges and not storing all of their coins on an exchange. At this time, I would prefer to take my chances with an inexperienced employee and train them personally than for them to conduct better background checks on the individuals they hire for their organization.

Conclusion

It is clear that crypto exchanges need to do better in terms of security if they want to keep attracting investors. The string of hacks in recent years has been a major turnoff for many potential investors, myself included. If exchanges can't get their act together and start protecting their customers' money better, then I'm done putting my money into them.
