Exoskeleton Pants

Back to when the world was coming out of months of COVID lockdowns

I wrote my first blog about Exoskeletons you can read it by using the hyper-link. Today will will explore how Exoskeleton

Here we will focus on the release on a pair of pants to make you a better hiker.

Please consider this a follow-on albeit several years apart.  I must warn you these pants costs $5000 up front. Nor do I envision that I will be waiting in line for these to hit retail stores!

Who is the manufacturer?

Arc’teryx and they are based in Canada, with a portion of their manufacturing taking place in China.  Actually the pants are a collaborative effort with their partner Skip. Skip is a Tech startup whose founders came from the tech titan Google.

What did they release?

They released Mountain Goat AKA MO/GO, which consists of fiber based limbs that aid your quads and knees in action. The weight of the limbs adds 7 pounds (3.175Kg)  to the pants but the trade off is 30 pounds lighter.  So, there is a trade-off of actual weight and the transference of workload the carbon fiber offsets. Net less work the body is doing over period of time.

Place your deposit and get a reservation...then wait

Put down $100 and those on the Reservations list should receive their pants in December 2025!

Globally militaries are always looking for the next best thing.

I see Exoskeleton's being applied to military apparatus to help human fighters as the next evolution for battlefields. Think of it in this manner, an urban warfare scenario. Units are going door-to-door clearing houses and apartments, the power is out for miles around. So they are kicking in doors and climbing stairs hour after hour. Even 30% improvement in efficiency will go a long way to stave off physical exhaustion.  Do you agree with this use case?

Summary

I don't see a large consumer demand for this product set initially, however as prices are lowered due to capital recovery I could see an uptick in sales. Military applications might expand the use case I envisioned above and this would also contribute to decrease costs overtime. So the consumer would benefit in the long run.

Disclaimer - I am not associated with either firm, nor am I an investor, just a curious soul.
