SCIFI Future - Exoskeletons
Ever think about living daily without fatigue, or at least performing daily tasks without fatigue? Exoskeletons allow you to perform heavy tasks nearly without fatigue. One such application is large scale manufacturing, consider an automobile assembly line for instance picking up and placing the tire onto the vehicle. When performed 100's of times a day it can wear you out, unless you have built up muscle endurance. Now think about as the human body ages and the lose of muscle mass and endurance fatigue can be a real issue. Another application is for those born with diseases that prevent normal body functioning, this might provide the assistance they need to live on their own or accept employment in area they would have been restricted from otherwise. Another medical application is a loved one caring for another loved one, perhaps having to pick them up and place them into a tub or vehicle. The most explored option is going to be the US Military branches experimenting with a few of their own use cases for several years. One use case actually ties back into the human body fatigue use case. Think long running patrols or camp site setup, the Exoskeleton becomes valuable quickly.
Who are the players?
Raytheon/Sacros demonstrated their XOS 2 in 2010
Argo Medical Devices their ReWalk device goes for a steep $150K
US Army started exploring Exoskeletons for us in '19
Lockheed Martin’s Onyx which won a Popular Science award in 2018.
HULC by EKSO/Lockheed Martin - also allows weights of 200lbs to be carried without strain on the wearer it can be put on or removed in 30-seconds.
Operational Exoskeleton (OX) by Australia’s DSTO
How can this be applied to BlockChain? What if all the Exoskeleton events were recorded on the blockchain or what if it could be programmed or re-programmed from the BlockChain?
Summary As you have read above there are Peace time and Military applications for exoskeletons. I will be watching this space for more development and of course use cases.
Enjoy the Journey!
