With a substantial amount of developers signed up, the Tezos - Coinlist hackathon has officially started. The hackathon lasts from May the 25th to June the 25th. During this period developers can build with the guidance of the supporting partners of the hackathon, which are all core Tezos infrastructure developers and/ or tool developers for the Tezos ecosystem. The hackathon serves a double purpose that way: the hackathon partners will gain valuable feedback from the ones they build the ecosystem for: developers that build on top of the Tezos ecosystem.
Competitors in the hackathon can submit projects till the 25th of June and are competing for prizes from the total prize pool of $25,000,-.
It's not too late to register, and if you have any doubts, remember that once you register, you will be invited for workshops that are being offered by the hackathon partners like: Truffle (which recently added Tezos to their tooling platform which initially only supported Ethereum), Ligo, Smartpy, Tezos Commons, Baking Bad, Beakon, Cryptonomic, Formatic, TQ Tezos, Stove Labs and Taquito. Developers can also tap into developer resources:

Why build on Tezos?
Tezos is a decentralized platform that is build for swift evolution which enables it to stay relevant. Tezos unique on-chain governance model results in the ability to upgrade swift and smooth, while at the same time preventing harmful chainsplits that could pose risks for applications that are build on the platform. Developers can build on Tezos, using multiple smart contract languages. One of the most well-known is Michelson, an institutional-grade smart contract language which supports formal verification which uses math to prove that code will perform correctly. This is essential to building mission-critical applications where the cost of error is extremely high.

Smartcontract languages:

There are multiple languages available to build on Tezos: "You don't have to write Tezos smart contracts in Michelson. There are other languages like SmartPy (Python), LIGO, Liquidity, Morley (Haskell), Fi (JavaScript / Solidity), Archetype (Ocaml) and compile those to Michelson. More will follow." - @djangobits
