Quickly - What is Upland
New to Upland? Upland is a "property-trading, city-building metaverse designed for players to explore cities, collect properties, and meet other Uplanders." It is also one of the leading blockchain games in terms of players. With the launch of Los Angeles, thousands of virtual properties, each one it's own NFT, are up for grabs with approximately 13% of the properties being Fair Start Act (FSA) properties. With over ten thousand FSA properties designed to help new players get their footing, this is a perfect week to get started. You can get started here. Upland has a great referral program so be sure to invite your friends.
North Los Angeles Drops Thursday
Thursday, February 3rd, at 8:00 AM PT North LA will be released! If you want to get started but don't have lots of time to learn the ropes here are two fast and simple starter strategies to get you going right out of the gate.
Speculate
Buy properties in notable locations. One method that has many followers is a speculation-oriented strategy. When a city is launched the collections for the city are announced at a later date. This leaves room for some speculation simply because the properties that fall into a collection will ultimately be worth more. This is a reasonable strategy because there is a semi-reliable pattern to how collections are created. Each city's collections usually include prominent neighborhoods, streets and landmarks. Examples include San Francisco's Painted Ladies, Haight-Ashbury, Russian Hill and Nob Hill collections. Other examples are Harlem, Upper East Side, Little Italy and China Town in New York or the French Quarter in New Orleans. Most recently, the Berkeley and Alameda launch added the UC Berkeley collection to Oakland. You can see some of this speculation in action in LA's Venice neighborhood which launched with South LA last week. What if your expensive property isn't part of a collection? That's okay because many Uplanders want to own interesting properties in neat places even if they aren't part of official collections.
Speculating on a budget? Based on observations blue collections seem to favor geographically larger neighborhoods which in turn have more properties - perhaps justifying their lesser rarity. This can be seen with Fresno's Woodward Park, Oakland's Piedmont or West End, Kansas City's Shoal Creek, Cleveland's Glenville, Old Brooklyn and Union-Myles Park neighborhoods and so on. Cleverly this leaves room to speculate in large inexpensive neighborhoods as well as more expensive, culturally-notable areas.
What could be collections in LA? With at least 25 collections promised there are just too many to know with certainty. As an entertainment industry powerhouse there are dozens of significant locations that are worth noting. The previously mentioned Venice is an example, Hollywood and Hollywood Blvd seem like likely candidates. Chinatown, Downtown, Koreatown and Watts feature prominently in film and popular culture and they too are strong potential candidates. An eagle-eyed detective may also perceive hints in the release details such as when they mention the number of arts jobs and museums in the city, perhaps signaling a collection based on museums, theatres, recording studios, galleries etc. Half the fun of this strategy is the payoff and the other half is the mystery.
Spread
Buy every property you can get your hands on. If there's no time for research or UPX to afford a property in a flashy neighborhood any Uplander can go for quantity over quality. This tends to be for those that favor the old axiom "don't put all your eggs in one basket". Put plainly it means purchasing as many properties as possible, likely at the low end of the price scale and in as many places as you can. This depends on your budget but it has clear advantages including completing the Standard Collections in each city. An additional perk is that the sheer number of properties should bring in a good deal of regular income per month and with luck, you could accidentally purchase rarer collection properties.
