Nathan Payne is an American singer-songwriter with more than 30 years of experience in the world of punk and American folk, with 21 record productions under his belt, countless tours in the United States and an international tour that took him to the most remote stages of South and Central America.  His songs describe and narrate a landscape full of melancholy and disappointments, where love appears as a memory of the past and the reality of life is disguised as gloomy and sonorous metaphors.

Inspired by the punk movement that had its peak in the 70s and 80s in major American cities, since the age of 15 he was already transcribing his favorite Metallica songs, first cultivating the calluses that every metal or punk guitarist proudly wears, to then become a poet of the asphalt jungle, capturing in his lyrics all kinds of ethereal ruminations, where anxiety and negativity confront small moments of happiness and the fear of God in an attitude of dispossession and abandonment.  His art is conceived in rejection and flourishes in the darkness of bars, dimly illuminating listeners with his frenetic fire, which like every emotional fire, begins with a spark of lucidity.  Although punk has always been a musical expression that disagrees with social, political and musical norms, Nathan Payne transcends this cliché by accompanying his life experiences with chords and harmonies typical of North American folklore.  A song is not real if it is not born from a real experience.  He does not sing about imaginary scenarios, he does not sing about politics.  The shadows of his past come back to life in each song and create a bond with the listener who manages to understand the pain of others.

How did Nathan come to Guanajuato to continue with his musical and artistic ambitions?  It is difficult to explain.  Although he is a lover of his own country, the search for a place he can call home is still standing.  The punk attitude of disagreement with the status quo has taken him down unimaginable paths and in this chapter he decided on Mexico.  The search for that golden ticket that every artist pursues does not end.  Independence and the freedom to create without restrictions is a motivation that undoubtedly tests every artist.

His short-term projects also include making a film that portrays the process of his artistic expression, focusing on his role as an American immigrant who navigates the streets of Mexico, the problems that arise along the way, and how divine providence takes care of those who are lost in a foreign land.

Nathan Payne es un cantautor estadounidense con más de 30 años de trayectoria en el mundo del punk y el folk norteamericano, con 21 producciones discográficas en su haber, incontables giras por los Estados Unidos y una gira internacional que lo llevó a los escenarios más recónditos de Sur y Centro América.  Sus canciones describen y narran un paisaje lleno de melancolía y sinsabores, donde el amor aparece como un recuerdo del pasado y la realidad de la vida se disfraza de metáforas lúgubres y sonoras.

Inspirado en el movimiento punk que tuvo su auge en las décadas de los 70s y los 80s en las principales ciudades estadounidenses, desde los 15 años se encontraba ya transcribiendo sus temas favoritos de Metallica, cultivando primero los callos que todo guitarrista metalero o punketo porta con orgullo, para luego convertirse en un poeta de la jungla de asfalto, plasmando en sus letras toda clase de ruminaciones etéreas, donde la ansiedad y la negatividad se enfrentan a los pequeños momentos de felicidad y al temor a Dios en una actitud de despojo y abandono.  Su arte se gesta en el rechazo y florece en la oscuridad de los bares, iluminando tenuemente a los escuchas con su frenético fuego, que como todo incendio emocional, comienza con una chispa de lucidez.

Aunque el punk siempre fue una expresión musical en desacuerdo con las normas sociales, políticas y musicales, Nathan Payne trasciende este cliché al acompañar sus experiencias de vida con acordes y armonías propias del folklor norteamericano, un tema no es real si no nace de una experiencia real, no canta sobre escenarios imaginarios, no canta sobre política, las sombras de su pasado reviven en cada canción y crean un vínculo con el escucha que logra comprender el dolor ajeno.

¿Cómo es que Nathan llega a Guanajuato a seguir con sus ambiciones musicales y artísticas?  Es difícil de explicar, aunque es un amante de su propio país, la búsqueda por un lugar al que pueda llamar hogar sigue en pie, la actitud punk de desacuerdo con el status quo lo ha llevado por caminos inimaginables y en este capítulo que corre se decidió por México.  La búsqueda por ese boleto dorado que todo artista persigue no termina, la independencia y la libertad de crear sin restricciones es una motivación que sin duda pone a prueba a todo artista.

Dentro de sus proyectos a corto plazo se encuentra también la realización de un filme que retrate el proceso de su expresión artística enfocado en su carácter de inmigrante estadounidense que navega por las calles de México, los problemas que surgen en el camino y como la divina providencia se encarga de cuidar a los que estuvieron perdidos en tierra ajena.
