NFT News that Are Tipping the Scales: NFTs in the spotlight

NFTs are all the hype right now, and for a good reason. A NFT, as I’m sure many of you know by now, is a trustworthy new way of certifying that a digital asset is unique. Which helps it being not interchangeable. This could be applied to photos, videos, music, drawings, AI projects and any other kind of digital files.

By the end of 2020, according to the “Tradingplatforms dot com”, the market capitalization of NFTs was estimated at $338 million. After that, sales of NFTs have grown by more than $2.5 billion in the first half of this year. A big jump, indeed.

People are starting to see the potential of NFTs really quick. Everybody wants a piece of this cake. Their utility coupled with the fast-growing interest in them may very well be revolutionary.

But who, recently, was interested in NFTs?

Those $2.5 billion that we’ve just talked about are not for nothing. Celebrities, Magazines, industrial companies, financial firms, … Everyone is participating in this in one way or another.

So, let’s dive deeper to see who, exactly, is interested in the market of NFTs thus far.

In Singapore, on its September’s edition, Vogue featured a QR code to allow people to access its newly launched “interactive fashion metaverse”. Through this digital portal Vogue offers a “unique online experience” to its visitors. It also showcases 15 NFTs supporting beauty and design products. As well as two magazine covers presented as NFTs. Limited edition, of course.

Mid-August, Tom Brady, the famous American football quarterback, launched his Autograph NFT. Which, just from its name, I can tell you is, probably, going to be very in demand.

On August the 18th, Visa corporation bought the CryptoPunk 7610 NFT for $150,000. According to reports this was but its first step into this digital world. A way for Visa to know “what it takes to acquire, custody and interact with a NFT.” Which means that the company will, surely, go further with this, if the market of NFTs offers more lucrative opportunities.

On August the 24th, the Budweiser company purchased a Rocket ship NFT for its Twitter profile for the price of 8 ETH, or $27,344 by today’s price. This was the follow-up on its new purchase of the domain name Beer.eth, which costed 30 ETH, or more than $100,000.

By the way, this wasn’t new. Another subsidiary of the parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev in England, Stella Artois UK, have already released a series of branded NFTs in June.

And for the most recent NFT news. On Monday, August the 30th of this year, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan introduced his NFT collection. It’s comprised of collectibles that will represent his status. It will also mark the opening of the BeyondLife Club platform. The collection is limited and exclusive. As you’d expect.

Moreover, DKNY, a fashion house situated in New York City, have just started the promotion of its new logo through NFT launch.

Other sport celebrities, projects and corporations are also joining the party. For instance, Rakuten, a major sports sponsor, plans to integrate NFTs in many branches of its business. Including its marketplace, which will launch by the spring of 2022. This market, will allow its 1.4 billion global customers to buy NFTs in various fields.

WISeKey International Holding Ltd, a leading cybersecurity company. As well as Polygon, the blockchain of choice for NFTs, have joined forces to create the WISe.Art platform. A place where people can exchange NFTs into WISeKey’s own TrustECoin with ease.

With all of this happening in the world of NFTs, I think that they are here to stay and are not fading away any time soon. Some could say that it could be a bubble. But I say it’s not as simple as that.

While it’s true that their price hike is steep, let's not forget that technological advancements could come up with an alternative. NFTs have their own challenges. Which I assure you are quite numerous.

However, they do fill a need that is very present. The need to secure digital assets in a unique way. What's certain is that, for now, many big names like JP Morgan Chase and Coca-Cola, on top of the ones already cited, are jumping on it.

So, what do you think about it? Are you interested in NFTs in any way or shape? Is this hype a fad or does it indicate a real growing interest?
