Splinterlands - Battle Mage Secrets: Equalizer

By NoZem | Nozem01 Splinterlands | 29 Feb 2024

Hello everybody! another post from me, the Splinterlands team is giving me a lot of work on Thursday by launching two challenges roughly about the same time 😅, I made my Social Media Challenge post just before this one, it's about me upgrading my deck from high Silver level to high Gold level, the most remarkable Splinterlands moment for in over 2.5 years I'm playing, and it's a lot of fun!
You can read my post here.

After my post, I tried a few more Wild League battles to churn out one extra chest right before the end of the season, right now we're just under four hours left until season end, but I'm pretty high in the Gold ranking, or at least I was, at 2867, but got my ass kicked three times in a row and dropped back to 2811 now, so I decided it's better if I'll make my second post for this week and try later today.

This weeks Battle Mage Secrets challenge is about the Equalizer ruleset, in which all monsters get the same amount of Health Points as the highest monster on either team, be sure to include a healer, or... to counter... affliction, and... to counter that, cleanse 😅 yeah we could go on like this lol.
To find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, you can find the post here.

All units start with the same health, based on the highest health on either team.
Buffs and debuffs are done afterward - this impacts base health.

So, with this ruleset, it's important to focus your fire, or you will end up damaging the other team but not killing them, while they kill your monsters one by one, so either go full frontal attack, or make a nice sneak team to surprise your opponent, don't use Snipe or have a good reason for it, like my Runic Skyclaw is the fail safe, he's fast and has flying, so when my front line gets killed, his job is to dodge and get healed, while the backline kills off the enemy team.

The battle for this post I want to share is a 38 mana Wild League Equalizer / Briar Patch / Lost Magic battle, with only the Water splinter locked out. It's not hard to know what's going to be played a lot - ranged damage, so we could either expect Quix with a ranged team or General Sloan, I decided to go with Quix, and because there are too many possibilities in the enemy line up, I just make a nice team and didn't think about countering the other team, except nerfing the ranged damage with Quix. Without magic, I was planning to make a speed dependent team, hopefully my opponent is going for Sloan and uses slow monsters...

First look at the battlefield:

Another account from the 'ding' bot farm, and that's fine, I'll usually beat it 😁 there's one unit in the other team speeding them up, that's a bummer, hopefully I can get a couple of dodges and get my Naga Assassin to backfire...

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Quix the Devious - reason: Speed management, nerfing ranged damage.
  • First position: Onyx Sentinel - reason: Shield.
  • Second position: Naga Assassin - reason: Fast, so evasive, Backfire.
  • Third position: Gargoya Devil - reason: Good damage, Close Range.
  • Fourth position: Runic Skyclaw - reason: Good damage, Flying and fast, so good chance to dodge, it's my fail safe for when the front line gets killed.
  • Fifth position: Supply Runner - reason: Speed management.
  • Sixth position: Venari Crystalsmith - reason: Healing.

The Battle:

Round 1: Well, my tank died, but it was just to delay, now we're getting to my actual strategy...

Round 2: 4 misses, so 4 backfire's doing 2 damage, nice! My Naga took some damage so hopefully it gets healed to dodge a few more attacks.

Round 3: Three more misses before the Naga died, not bad! I was busy counting the misses so I was a little late with pausing the battle to take a screenshot 😅.

Round 4: Hits on both sides, the Devil could die, but I think I'm fine because of Runic Skyclaw...

Round 5: One more down....

Round 6: And suddenly, it went very fast and all that's left is the healer, unable to shoot from the first position.

Another nice win up in Gold 1, this was just before I surpassed the 2800 and got the message 'Wild Diamond League unlocked'. COOL! I declined, I'm not ready for that!
The winstreak is boosting my RP nicely, I'm up to 8 gold chests for the day now... but look what happened...

Crap 😂 I'll need to wait before my energy is a bit refilled to get that last win for another chest. Two hours left at this point before season end.

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

That's it! I hope to see you next week, by then we will know how cool the new ranked system is 😊
