THE PROMO
It goes like this. For every 50 Untamed Booster packs purchased by Splinterlands accounts with connected WAX wallets, that account will be awarded 1 KOGs Starter Pack from their 3-hour-limted Collector's sale, happening next Tuesday, December 22nd.
Splinterlands Booster Packs are $2 each, but there are additional ways to stack and save even more...
First, if purchased with Dark Energy Crystals (the in-game currency of Splinterlands that players earn with every win), the Booster Packs are even cheaper than $2 each. Allow me to explain:
Dark Energy Crystals can be moved out of Splinterlands and easily traded for other cryptocurrencies. They are currently traded on HIVE-Engine, Trontrade, and Uniswap. Because of the additional bulk discounts of Splinterlands Pack purchases, DEC tends to trade on these exchanges at a lower rate than the "pegged" rate of 1000 = $1 at which you can purchase Booster Packs. Staying with me so far?
For 200,000 DEC (currently valued at 81% of the $1 peg) you would actually be paying $162 in Dec Energy Crystals. But here's what you would get:
110 Untamed Booster Packs - $220 value
2 KOGs Starter Packs - $60 value

If you think that 1st Edition KOGs did well, you ain't seen nothin' yet!

My Personal Success with KOGs First Edition

Without going into specifics about how much I spent and how much I made (I have a lot of KOGs), I can share that my adventures with KOGs thus far have been wildly successful, as have the adventures of everyone else who collected them from the beginning. With current conservative estimates of the value of my collection, my KOGs have grown in value by a magnitude of 30x. Many of these gains are simply due to the moves that I continually made on the secondary markets, but often those moves were as simple as buying cheaper KOGs and selling more expensive ones. This is the advantage of working with a small (but very active) market of collectibles.

It is difficult to say that I hope for greater numbers in the second edition, perhaps because more people know what kind of success to expect from KOGs. Still, I am almost certain that as quickly as 1 day after these packs finished being sold in the primary sale, they will begin to increase rapidly in price.
AN OBLIGATORY AND NECESSARY WARNING
Please remember that these are anecdotes. No matter how certain I seem that value of these $30 packs will increase rapidly (and that the KOGs inside them will be worth ridiculous piles of cash), I cannot possibly predict what a free market will do with them. I like to give my readers credit for being smart with their money. You must never invest more than you can afford to completely and entirely lose.
Combining the 2 Successful Companies Once Again
So back to the Splinterlands+KOGs promo that is happening from now until the 2nd Edition sale next Tuesday. Do you now have an idea of what you can do with it? I personally intend to redeem this promotion as many times as I can before the KOGs sale, where I will also be buying Packs. Not only do I understand the liquidity of Splinterlands Booster Packs and the cards within, but I understand the potential of KOGs Starter Packs. It is very possible that the KOGs Starters alone will make up the entire cost of the Splinterlands Booster Pack purchases I made.
Obviously, you'll get the greatest value out of the promotion if you (as I've described above) hold out for the 100 Booster Pack or 500 Booster Pack bulk deals, which will stack with the KOGs promo. You'll be given a KOGs Starter for every 50 Booster Packs purchased from Splinterlands.com, even if other bulk discounts and Dark Energy Crystal savings are applied.
Again, this promotion brings such incredible value to both Splinterlands players and KOGs collectors that I couldn't resist writing an entire article just to explain how.
