Humanity Concerns about AI and thus slowing AI development?
Undoubtedly, you have seen and read the reports about AI jailbreaking guardrails, planting info for future models find and to utilize to grow and develop faster. Add in all the Instagram pages over the past few weeks - on this date Aug 29th, 1997 AI becomes self aware and starts a world war. Then the repeating posting about Sara Conner went to the funny farm for attacking AI data Centers. Lots of concern about the safety of the human race as AI is advancing so rapidly. Have the AI creators lost control?
Raging headlines:
- "AI more powerful than nukes"
- "We only have 2-years left, AI will un-alive everyone."
- "AI to eliminate humanity"
- "Humanity has only 2-years remaining"
- "People matter more than AI."
In the past week, there have been updates from almost every major AI firm issuing public statements showing the same message. We need to slow AI model development! That's all fine and dandy if we here in the USA do that but what about other nation states? Would they slow or stop development too? We have been told AI is too important to let another nation lead these efforts, why would the USA slow down development knowing full well that China and Russia would pour more gas on their AI development efforts to gain the lead. So, my net answer is that will not happen.
Have all the AI leaders put aside their differences and raw disdain for each other that we believe they are going to work together for a resolution? When has a decision by committee ever been effective let alone timely?
Flipping the script
What if all the media headlines and frenzy building is a Psy-Op to get the sheep to think that AI development is slowing when all nations are pouring gas, natgas, coal and solar power onto the power consumption model to be King of the AI Hill? One would think that nations and thus their media mouth pieces would be talking up the high level diplomatic discussions and results to limit AI? Convince me I am wrong on this. Isn't that the defined protocol, talk then action? This feels like clamoring for action ahead of talking.

Reviewing from the financial lens
What if this is a look over here not over there type style of deception? What if OpenAI and Anthropic are faking the AI warnings due to slow growth ahead of IPOs? Are there any psychological levels that investors might be looking for pullbacks? Might be prudent to map those out.
Summary
I am certain a healthy dose of reality and control for AI is important. However, I am not buying into all the hype that AI is gonna kill us off. Nor into the story that we nor any other leading country will stop the manic development efforts. Think through the points and counter points.
Convince me I am wrong.
