I tried this type of beer for the first time several years ago in Slovakia. Then I went with a friend to the Beskids to the village of Laliki, to complete several bicycle routes in this area.

One day we decided to cross the Polish-Slovak border to quench our thirst with a good beer after a tedious MTB ride on a mountain bike. I decided to try a beer called "Bernard".

Although it is produced in the Czech Republic, it is also easily available in Slovakia. Back then, the beer was bottled in special bottles with a reusable closure, finished with porcelain with a rubber seal. You can still buy them, but today few companies produce this type of closures due to too high costs.

Back then, the aroma and note of this beer were a taste revelation for me and always accompanied me when I ate Bavarian pork knuckle. I decided to try it again after many years of hiatus.
I was not disappointed, it is still excellent, delicate in taste and made of Žatec hops. It is not very strong, as only 4.9% of alcohol and 12% of extract, but this is the norm for Czech and Slovak beers.

The foam is not very large and falls quickly, while the color is more tea-like.

It is great for breaking the taste when eating fatty meats, especially pork knuckles or grilled ribs, but it will also find its place with a homemade, spicy pizza with lots of chili peppers. I recommend this beer to any gourmand of golden drinks.

For those interested in the products of this brewery, a link is provided. They have a mail order shop, but I don't know if they ship to other countries outside the Czech Republic. www.bernard.cz

Enjoy 😋
