Everyone has come across a place in their lives that captivated them from the first time and to which they often return. My such place is the Kraków-Częstochowa Jurassic, a little known town on the route to Ogrodzieniec, namely Hutki-Kanki.
Why such a strange name of this village?
The Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska region is rich in zinc and lead deposits. In the 1970s, many zinc and lead mines were established here, especially in the vicinity of Zawiercie and Olkusz, followed by steel mills producing, for example, galvanized sheets. It was this material that was used in all kinds of production.
What is Kanka?
Kanka is a container made of galvanized steel, which until recently was used to transport milk from the host to the dairy. It was in the village of Hutki-Kanki that such containers were produced and hence the name of the village.
Few remember the times when morning and evening milking was left in front of the house in the countryside, in these cannons. Then a tractor with a trailer or a coachman with a wagon and a horse was coming up, taking pans full of milk and transporting them to the dairy.
We found our place in this village. It is calm, beautiful forests.
Several times a year we come here to camp, we set it up on private land, and we have a permit from the owner. We are alone there, cut off from people, and sometimes also from civilization, because the phone often has no coverage.
There are some brilliant hiking trails in the area. The river Centuria flows nearby, although it is only 50 km from the large industrial city of Katowice, it has the first class of cleanliness. This means that the water from it can be consumed even without boiling it.
There is also the Góra Chełm reserve in the area, which delights from spring to late autumn.
