
Xylaria polymorpha - The fungus is made of the handle part and washer; the hard washer reaches from 40 to 100 mm in height and from 10 to 30 mm in thickness, while the stem part is up to 10 mm in length; young sporocarps have a gray-brown color, and as they age black, they usually get a violet shade; their shape is irregularly clubbed, palpated, often tapering downwards; surface matte, rough, with small warts, in mature specimens delicately dotted by the minimetr estuary.
Flesh: whitish, very hard, corky, fibrous or woody, without smell and taste.
Occurrence: grow throughout the year in small groups, are saprophytes growing on dead wood in parks, forests, on fallen branches in thickets, on deciduous wood, most often on beeches, hornbeams, oaks.
Value: inedible.
