
Sparassis crispa - The mushroom reaches heights from 50 to 200 mm and from 60 to 300 mm in width. There are also larger fruiting bodies, whose weight can reach several kilograms. The form is irregularly spherical. It consists of many small twigs, which are flattened, waved and serrated at the ends. In the shape of spatulate, tufted or lamellar, with a smooth, bilateral hymenial surface. In off-white, grayish-white, creamy, yellowish, ochraceous color. With age, the edges of branches turn brown.
Stem short, thick, white-gray in color. Stuck in the ground.
Waxy and crumbed flesh. White color. Constant. Smell pleasant, spicy-nutty. The taste is similar.
Occurrence: Seen rarely, in summer and in autumn. The habitat is pine and mixed forests, with a predominance of pine trees. It grows from the ground, but grows on the roots of pines or other conifers (Douglas fir, larch). It usually grows singly, but sporadically you can find fruiting bodies in hand.
