Iranian dances are very diverse and have different types and names. Many of these dances will delight you and many others will create a sense of calm and security in the audience.

In this article, I’ll continue explaining different types of dances, folk dances, and rhythmic moves which are practicing all around Iran.

Bakhtiari Dance

In this dance, women, and men dance in a circle, waving colorful handkerchiefs and in rhythmic movements, women dance in colorful local costumes, men dance in debit and chogha trousers with yelling special shouts.

We have two types of Bakhtiari dance. The first type of dance is performed only by men and is called "chubazi" or "jangnomeh", which is a kind of stick dance. On the other hand, dances performed by men and women, usually in a mixed state, are dances called "two-legs", "three-legs ", "four handkerchiefs", "Hey Dete", "Jiran Jiran", "Sculpture Dance", "Chupi" and "Sarnaz".

Mazni Dance

A dance belonging to the people of Mazandaran province in northern Iran, which has different types of "Sama", "Lak Seri Sama" or "Cheke Sama" and is almost the most common and currently the only dance of all Tabari-speaking regions.

This dance is usually performed individually and sometimes more people participate. Although "Sama" is a women's dance, sometimes men also take part in the dance. "Lak Seri Sama" is a fast and exciting dance that is accompanied by wavy and vertical vibrations of the body parts.

Mazandaran dance is free of various figures and in its collective performance, the dancers act independently and without communication with each other. "Cheke Sama" is a dance that belongs to the north of Alborz, but it is also is practicing in most of the mountainous and foothill settlements of the south of Alborz as well.

Qashqai Dance

The Qashqais are the people living in the heart of nature, interested in the beliefs of the past and inheriting deep-rooted customs and traditions. At weddings, men dance with sticks and women dance with handkerchiefs, which are the symbols of ancient traditions. In Qashqai dance, men and women form a large circle with local costumes and handkerchiefs, and with foot movements, in tune with the sound of drums and reeds, they move up and down.

In the "Dermaro" dance, the men dance in pairs with the short and long sticks in their hands to the sound of the traditional music.

Some believe that this game was common among the Iranian tribes during the Achaemenid period (was a massive Persian Empire a long long time ago in Iran territories). At that time, the soldiers of the Eternal Guard were having fun using this game. It is said that this game was a kind of war exercise.

Baba Karam Dance

Baba Karam (literary means daddy have mercy!) dance is a remnant of the 1320s (80 years ago) and is one of the so-called popular dances among the common people and has become very known ever since. " Baba Karam" dance has special features and is performed exclusively by men, but these days nothing is impossible and we see that sometimes girls perform Baba Karam dance as a joke and for laughter but sometimes they take it very seriously!

In Baba Karam, shoulder and waist dancing is used and the dancer wears a suit, a hat, and usually hangs a lame around the neck and uses it during the dance performance.

This dance is still very popular among people in different parts of Iran and is sometimes performed for humor.
