The release version of the Mortegard client is now live and ready to play now!
Mortegard is a kingdom building game built for the Polygon Network. Players own castles & land, create empires, and collect tokenized resources.
Castles
Castles are represented as trading cards, each type with unique art, description, and base resource generation. Each castle can be placed and staked in the Mortegard Kingdom Building Client to grant 18 tiles of land for players to develop.
Castles and their surrounding lands form the basis of the Mortegard economy by giving their owners the capacity to generate tokenized resources. By owning one or more castles, you are considered nobility in the Mortegard Game world.
At launch, there are several castles available on OpenSea.
Land
When you stake your castles in the Mortegard Kingdom Building Client, you are granted 18 tiles of land, which you can customize by placing developments.
Each castle type has a unique biome when placed in the game client. These tiles are cleared and built over as you develop your kingdom and customize it to suit your needs.
Each castle staked grants an additional 18 tiles of land, and kingdoms can be expanded with as many castles as you own.
Developing Your Land
The land you own can be customized with development cards.
Developments are created by spending(burning) resources within the game client, which will in turn mint a new development you can then use within the game. Developments placed and staked on your land will increase the resource generation of your empire.
Some developments are created by upgrading other developments, and the costs indicated in-client will inform you which base tile is required to create each upgraded version. Developments must not be staked or placed in-client in order for them to be available for upgrade.
Your land can be developed in any way that you desire: Create a densely populated tax farm or a lumber-producing wooded wonderland, rule a rough scrabble covered with mines and mineral veins, forge a religious epicenter, harvest luscious farmland, or any combination of the above.
Some developments will also be available as rewards for in-game mechanics.
Resources
Resources are generated by your empire through staking castles and development cards, and are represented as ERC-20 tokens. These resources accumulate as staking rewards in a pool, and are claimable at any time.
Resources form the backbone of the Mortegard economy and are generally only produced by castle owners.
Resources can be spent to create or upgrade developments, sent to participate in story events, or sold in Uniswap Liquidity Pools.
Courtiers
Courtiers are characters from the Mortegard world who will aid your quest to build your empire.
Courtiers provide bonuses to your castle and the surrounding 18 tiles of land when placed in a castle, with up to three courtiers able to be placed in each castle. Upon placing courtiers in castles, they will interact with each other or talk about the castle, granting deeper insight into the world of Mortegard.
Courtiers can be acquired in a number of ways, be it from events external to the game, story events in-game, or by purchasing them from a marketplace, such as OpenSea.
Events
The story of Mortegard is ever-progressing. Each story event, called a saga, is split into chapters. Each chapter denotes a specific progression through the story. Players can contribute resources during these periods, and at the conclusion of each chapter rewards are distributed for participation, for high-level contributors and at random, based on contribution amounts.
Sagas will typically conclude with a boss-type event offering high-tier rewards.
Events do not require a castle to be contributed to, but they do require resources.
This is the first of several planned systems outside of development construction that will consume resources and help players progress their empires.
The Noticeboard is the best place to keep up with story events of Mortegard.
