Crypto is not the only thing keeping me up at night. I'm also a big enthusiast of electronic music, DJing with my girlfriend, and organizing parties & Open Air events in a Techno-collective.
Yesterday I was very excited to stumble upon a new project that combines both crypto and my passion to music.
Mixolicious is a website for simple audio hosting. Users can upload mixes, tracks, and recordings, and share them with the audience. It seems to be active and in constant development since 2016. They have just recently added their BAT-feature. The idea behind it is a mix of Soundcloud and Brave (with a little bit of Publish0x).
BAT Rewards
Most of you probably already know the Brave Browser and its Reward system powered by the Basic Attention Token.
I'm in my 3rd month using Brave Browser and still sticking to the browser. I love that it is Chromium-based, while turning the "Google"-factor around and giving back ownership of your data while protecting you from all the fuss around.
Mixolicious wants to adopt those mechanics and reward listeners for their attention:
People upload their music because they want people to listen to it. But uploading it is not enough, as any aspiring musician will tell you, getting people to actually listen to their music is hard. Inspired by the philosophy behind BAT, we believe that attention has value. Seeking out new music, discovering new artists, and exploring new genres, is a time-consuming process. By incentivising this, we hope to reduce some of this friction and encourage people to try out artists that they wouldn't otherwise listen to, or who don't have the advantage of having industry connections or marketing teams to get them into the spotlight.
Right now listeners get rewarded 10 cent ($0.10) per listen, and only tracks with an Attention Bounty count. It seems that most tracks (still) have the bounty jar filled up, so there is a lot to collect. You can identify them by the BAT symbol in the top right corner. The FAQ states that the minimum withdrawal is $10 (which translates to 100 listens), and that rewards are capped to $1 a day. All withdrawals are paid in BAT.
KYC will be required
Due to legal requirements every service that pays their customers has to follow KYC procedures now. You have probably seen all the FUD in the news. However - there is one major benefit from KYC. It helps to prevent fraud.
Mixolicious doesn't have a KYC provider yet. Their website states:
We don't have a KYC provider yet, and based on our research, they are not cheap. We will evaluate how successful our rewards system is before we go ahead with this but for now you'll just have to be trust us. As mentioned before, this is an experiment. So you can't withdraw yet but you can still earn attention until a KYC system is integrated, and if you are an artist, you can use the attention you have earned to offer bounties on your own music.
So you will not be able to withdraw your rewards yet. Personally, I will try to keep using the service for a while and take part in their little experiment. Sometimes being an early adopter pays out and I think the more users they gain in this period, the more successful the project will become.
After I have collected enough funds on the website I will use them to buy enough upload-time ($0.30 a minute) for a mix of my girlfriend and me.

- UI and Logo look a bit oldschool
- No KYC provider yet
- Only 10 minutes free (complaining about free stuff...)
