What does google know about you?

By Blindworld | Livelife | 1 Oct 2020

In this modern world, we use at least one service from Google. Let it be chrome, Gmail, hangouts, play store, youtube, or any other from their growing inventory.

What if I tell you that Google might know you better than your mother? After all these years of our relationship with Google, it accumulated enormous amounts of data.

Google publically acknowledge that they store your data. So I am going to share with you a few thoughts on how Google collects this data and how they plan to utilize it.

We may have at least once encountered abusive comments on YouTube. The profile that it comes from will be usually fake and the abuser thinks his identity is anonymous. But not actually Google knows him. It knows the IP address of his device, its model, and most probably his location and other accounts linked to his device.

Let me tell you something that I saw myself. A few days ago I opened a Facebook application on my new mobile. Interestingly on login suggestion, I found someone I didn't know. So this is what I think happened. My mobile had 5 Gmail accounts linked with it. Out of which one belonged to a friend of mine, who did share it with another friend. Both of our mobiles had email sync on. So Google algorithm thought that since we had the same Gmail account attached we both are the same person.

You may have used Google maps, the location service if turn on, Google can see wherever you go.which means you took a walk from your house to the grocery store Google can know that.

The story never ends here,

For instance, you spoke on hangouts about a holiday to Miami, and the next day I am getting ads about travel, hotels, etc. It's because Google knows that you are in the mood for a trip.

Google justifies the collection of data for personalized advertisements. It's simple a seller for mobile phones approach Google to display ads, he wants his ad to be displayed to a target audience- people he believes may be interested to buy his product. And Google says, yes we can show it to them.

This is how they use the data, Google does tap into your searches and activity..actually, we gave them permission to do so. And they prepared a chart.for each of us which has our.interests displayed.

You can easily get that list, find a link at the end of this post which will let you see what does Google knows about you.

You will first see age, gender, etc the stuff that you actually gave them. When you scroll down things will get tricky. It knows the type of videos you watch, the type of games you play, the genre of movies you like, it even knows that you are crazy about customizations.

With all these data what can they do? Actually pretty much nothing at least from a legal standpoint. There are strict laws that prevent Google from using this data in any way they want.

So you are safe there, they won't sell it to the highest bidder. But they can do something actually for the good of society. They can prevent crimes and even solve one. But they can't, the only thing is to hold on to this enormous amount of data, safeguard it and tell the government when they ask for it.

I hope you found this interesting, actually, there are many other interesting stories, some I .have shared some I will be sharing. So don't forget to follow me.
