On the 28th of January 2020 President Donald Trump announced a new plan for settling the decades old Israel-Palestine conflict, but how well will this plan go and how new is it really?
A two state solution has been the primary go to for any reasonable peace between the two quarreling parties. Giving parts of the majority Muslim lands to Palestine and the rest to Israel. Such a compromise might calm things down but, as we've seen before, such a compromise leaves both sides malcontent and makes further conflict highly likely or straight up inevitable.

So what does the Trump plan do differently from the rest? To be honest, not much. Compared to the status quo it is more favorable to the Palestinians, it gives them control of the eastern parts of Jerusalem and a larger amount of land. But comparing this plan to the initial UN partition or a full annexation this is bound to be a major let down for a lot of Palestine supporters.

All in all the plan seems to be just another rendition of a two state solution that is going to anger Israelis for taking too much land, and Palestinians for giving not enough of it. A proper end to the conflict is difficult to imagine but at least we can be sure that this is not it.
