"My Humanitarian Journey During the Devastating 2024 Floods in Feni"

The 2024 floods in Feni were among the most devastating natural disasters in the region’s history. Torrential rains caused rivers and canals to overflow, submerging low-lying areas and forcing countless families to flee their homes. In that moment of crisis, I—Taherul Islam—did not stand by as a silent observer. I took action with everything I had—my time, energy, and heart—to stand beside those in need.

As the founding president of Manob Sheba Samajik Songothon (Human Service Social Organization), I’ve been engaged in social work for years. But the 2024 flood posed an unprecedented challenge. As the water levels rose, our team quickly mobilized—gathering relief materials, setting up shelters, and organizing volunteer groups. Our only mission was to ensure that no affected person went without help.

In the photo above, I stand next to a large number of relief bags—each containing essentials like rice, lentils, salt, oil, and more. These supplies offered a lifeline to families who had nothing left. Our volunteers worked tirelessly—day and night—often navigating through muddy roads, deep water, and dangerous conditions to deliver aid directly to the people.

What moved me the most were the eyes of the children filled with fear, the gratitude of the elderly, and the silent tears of mothers receiving our support. These moments became the driving force behind our relentless effort. In many remote villages, where neither government nor NGOs had reached, we became the first responders—delivering food, comfort, and hope.

I was not alone. Brave young volunteers stood beside me, risking their own safety to serve others. We weren’t doing it for recognition or fame; we were doing it for humanity—for the love of people.

Through this article, I wish to share not just my experience, but a message of inspiration. Disasters will come, suffering will continue—but even a small act of kindness, a single relief bag, a word of assurance—can bring light into someone’s life.

The 2024 flood in Feni taught us a valuable lesson: humanity is the greatest strength we have. I am proud that I could stand with my people in their most difficult time, and I promise to continue serving them as long as I live.

Final Note:
When people stand by each other, no disaster is undefeatable. Humanity thrives when we act, when we care, and when we serve without expecting anything in return.
