Manzoni was an Artist who has sold 90 tin cans wich contained 30 grams of his own Shit per can for the equivalent weight price of Gold back in 1961.
Each can had a imprint of a Number from 001 to 090 and the Label was printed in englisch ,french, german and italian.
All his cans were sold and increased in value since then.
Manzonis art was about the relationship between human production and art production and its rumored that he came up with the idea when his Father told him that his Work was shit.Since his father owned a cannery ,it was easy for Manzoni to use the cans and label them.
Amazing isnt it?I mean that guy turned Shit into Gold :).
There are also Rumors that the message behind of the whole Project was art is shit and the Project was some kind of criticism on art, but no one can say for sure.Tragically Manzoni died only 2 years later in 1963 of a heart attack at the age of 29.
Opening the cans would have destroyed the art and devalued it, leaving the can worthless.
The cans are made of steel so x-ray scanns to take a look inside where also no Option.
Nevertheless some guy named Bernard Bazile opened one of the cans and turned it into a piece of art itself,he exhibited it in 1989 as Opened can of Piero Manzoni.
It contained a wrapped item which has not been unwrapped after the can was opened and left us with the Question if it really was shit as it was sold on the label or if Manzoni was a scammer.
Theres also a rumor that there are smaller tin cans in some of the cans, but who cares -its still art and Shit or not, its worth a fortune.
In 2016 one of the cans was sold for 275000€ at an auction in Italy,
i mean wow 275000 for a can of shit, thats insane.What the hell are these People doing with it?Propably they will lock it up in their Safe with their gold bars or they use the can as a deco under the chandelier.I wish i had some of this cans myself, damn life sucks.
