Whatever switch or predisposition you need to become a hoarder, I definitely have it in me.
I buy things that people collect, watches and sneakers for example, and even though I do wear everything I buy, I'm still inclined to keep everything, hold on to everything.
I have to force myself to throw away ancient shoes and items of clothing that are clearly way past their due date.
Here's a great example.
I used to have a pair of black Nike Air Force 1s. I'd had them forever. They were creased and damaged but I held on to them for long, until the glue that keeps the midsole attached to the sole gave and the shoe literally fell apart.
Some people would get rid of the shoes once they're too creased and damaged. Most people would definitely get rid of them once the sole literally falls off.
I didn't. I kept them in my apartment for an extra two months before I finally convinced myself to throw them away.
So this morning I came up with an idea. What if I started an Instagram page, or a website or whatever, and took a picture of an item I'm about to discard with the story behind it.
It's stupid, but I also think it's brilliant.
This is part of the reason why I sort of give things a soul.
Take the boots in the thumbnail for this post.
I bought them in Ireland, during a road trip with my then girlfriend. I was wearing them on an amazing work trip that allowed me to drive an off-roader in a marble quarry. I remember cleaning the marble dust and sand from them.
They were completely destroyed and so I got rid of them, but I have pictures and I associate said boots with said memories.
So would that resonate? Would that work? Let me know.
