Dear Friends,
With the tight restrictions on cooking gas supply, we finally decided to go for our favourite hotel to have a fantastic Briyani this week. To our surprise, on every table, there were two bottles of colored soda had been placed. With their vibrant shades of orange, blue, and green- each one looked so beautiful and enticing.
A young couple, accompanied by their five-year-old daughter, came and sat at the table right next to ours. The child was so incredibly mischievous. She had gone around the hotel tables, collecting the soda bottles from every table and placing them on her table. This pattern continued for quite a period of some time: the waitresses would retrieve the bottles back from the girl and put them back into their original tables. But the child was not in a mood to give it up at all. The child again went to the table again and fetch them again. The waitresses were having a terribly hard time; it was not a pleasant situation to witness at all.
But, the couple remained completely unperturbed, utterly immersed in their mobile phones. This is known as "Uninvolved Parenting" or "Neglectful Parenting."
Do you know what happens in this style of parenting?
The child enjoyed a lot with freedom at the hotel.
But guidance and boundaries are significantly lacked from the parent's side!
Most importantly, the level of parental attention and involvement is extremely low.
At times, this can also be referred to as "Digital Distraction Parenting."
In other words:
The parents are physically present,
But mentally in terms of their attention: they remain disconnected from the child.
There is a vast difference between the philosophy of "letting a child grow up freely"
and the attitude of "letting a child do whatever they please."
Aside from that the food at the hotel was so delicious.
Although they did take quite a bit of time to serve, it was overall a pleasant experience.
