Kryptomon — Ready, set… FIGHT!

By Cxsteam | Kryptomon | 29 May 2021

Hello trainers, welcome back to the wonderful world of Kryptomon. If you haven’t already, make sure to check out our previous articles on Phase 0 (P0) and Phase 1 (P1). There’s quite a bit of information in there that we’ll be building off on in this article so come back once you’ve digested all of that information.

This article will look at Phase 2 (P2) of the Kryptomon roadmap and touch on our plans for the future. Again, because of our co-creation promise to you, it’s worth noting that the functionalities discussed here are not set in stone and might be subject to change, depending on the feedback we receive.

There’s quite a lot to cover so let’s get cracking!

Phase 2 — Releasing sometime in Q4 2021

When exactly in Q4?

If you’ve read articles P0 and P1, unfortunately the answer is going to be exactly the same! We don’t want to guarantee a date because a lot of development work will depend on the response we get from the community after releasing the functionality on the BSC testnet.

So without sounding like a broken record, make sure you come join us on our Discord and pop by the #ideas channel where you can help offer suggestions on P2 functionality. After all, the faster we fix all the bugs, the earlier we can start P2!

Our eyes met… we must battle!

This is the moment you’ve all been waiting for, it’s finally time to find out who REALLY is the best Kryptomon trainer. In P1 you painstakingly searched for worthy Kryptomons with the strongest genes, cared for it and trained it to bring out its maximum potential… all to prepare yourself for P2.

P2 is centered around unlocking the ability to battle with your Kryptomons. We don’t intend to reinvent the wheel with this since there’s already a tried and tested system that kept an entire generation of kids spellbound. Taking inspiration from Pokemon’s battle mechanics, battling with Kryptomons will follow a similar turn based system where the goal is to knock out your opponent’s Kryptomon.

What’s the point of battling?

If I can already train my Kryptomon without battling, why would I bother challenging another trainer?

A good question! Besides the glory, fame and desire to be the very best, there are 3 practical reasons why you’d want to challenge as many trainers as possible:

  1. Better training results
  2. KMON
  3. Information

Better training results — Looking to real life as a guide, a tennis player who only ever trains against a wall might become a decent player, but will never be as good as someone who’s played multiple matches against real opponents. We wanted to mirror this in Kryptomon both by making battles against other trainers count as training, but also providing a boost to the stats gained after a battle compared to just regular training.

KMON — To make things a little more interesting, battles will come with consequences. Trainers can choose to both put up an equal amount of KMON as a bet, with the winner of the match taking it all. This creates the opportunity for trainers to #PlayToEarn, instead of only doing it for the fame and glory.

Information — With thousands of possible combinations, no single person will know everything there is to know about every Kryptomon. Battling isn’t just about having Kryptomons with the strongest genes but also knowing how to use your Kryptomons effectively. Information is power and knowledge of their strengths, weaknesses, attacks and how to counter each one will be invaluable in your journey to be the champion once the tournaments begin.

Tournaments and the Elite 4

At its core, Kryptomon is a social game centered around its players. As such, we want to continuously involve the community and reward those who have invested their time and effort in raising strong Kryptomon.

Once P2 is implemented, we’ll begin hosting battle tournaments at regular intervals. Initially this will be open to all trainers, but we intend to slowly transition into a tiered tournament system where new trainers must first win lower leveled tournaments to score points and prove themselves, before being allowed into higher leveled tournaments.

Similar to how tennis matches work today, joining a tournament will cost trainers a small amount of KMON that gets added to a pool. Winning a tournament will not only reward you with a cut of that KMON, but also award you points, which allows for a leaderboard to be created to rank trainers. Every season, the top ranking trainers on the leaderboard will be awarded the title of Elite 4, a tribute to the Pokemon series that Kryptomon draws its inspiration from.

Of course, we also intend to reward the Elite 4 with more than just a title. This might come in the form of KMON, limited edition NFT items… we haven’t decided yet! Let us know your thoughts in the comments or in Discord, what do you think should be the reward and responsibilities for the top 4 trainers in the leaderboard?

Healing your Kryptomons

Battling and injury come hand in hand, and you’ll want to keep your Kryptomons in tip top shape at all times. This is NOT a pay to win game, and just like Nurse Joy did for us back in the day, we intend to offer healing services to all Kryptomon trainers free of charge. ‘Nuff said.

Towards the future

At the time of writing (29 May 2021), Kryptomon is still a very young project. The Kryptomons are still slowly incubating in their eggs, waiting for the right trainers to come along and pick them up. We’ve got a long and very exciting journey ahead of us, with a roadmap that’s filled with plenty to do and yet more than a few unknowns.

Phase 3 is a story that’s yet to be written. Could we implement a gym leader system in addition to the Elite 4? Will there be PVE alongside PVP? Will we see the community band together to form guilds and host guild vs guild tournaments? The sky really is the limit and we want YOU to come along this journey with us.

Signing off for now, I leave you with a small teaser of one last thing we’re cooking up — Do your part in contributing to the #lore channel in Kryptomon. You MIGHT just see your idea turned into a global Kryptomon quest in the future! 😉

See you in game, fellow trainer.
