Kryptomon - New Beginnings

By Cxsteam | Kryptomon | 27 May 2021

Hello trainers, welcome to wonderful world of Kryptomon. It’s been an amazing couple of weeks and the community has absolutely exploded in size, with some great content already being fan made in the #lore channel in Discord. We love all the creativity so if you haven’t already, come join the others in the Discord channel and help shape the history of Kryptomon!

First off, we want to apologize for being quiet lately. We’ve got some very exciting things in the pipeline that we’ll be announcing very soon, but with the official release just around the corner we thought it’d be a good idea to touch on what you can expect come June. There have also been quite a few questions in the Discord and Telegram groups, so hopefully this will help answer those as well.

The Kryptomon roadmap is split into 3 phases at the moment, and this article covers Phase 0. Stay tuned for more information for Phases 1 and 2, we’ll be releasing more details soon!

Phase 0 — June 2021

Your very own Kryptomon journey is about to unfold! A world of dreams and adventures with Kryptomon awaits.

When exactly in June?

We’re still working on finishing up some last touches and final rounds of testing, so we can’t guarantee an exact date. We’d much rather take some extra time to ensure everything is working perfectly instead of releasing a buggy product, but there’ll more information on our social media websites once we’re ready to release Phase 0.

What happens in Phase 0?

I’m glad you asked! Phase 0 will be the beginning of it all, and 10,000 eggs will officially be released to trainers. The eggs will be free, and you’ll only have to pay the gas fees associated with receiving your egg.

If you’ve previously explored the #faq section of our Discord, you might have come across instructions for testing some functionality by getting a “test egg” on the BSC testnet. The functionality currently in the testnet is roughly what you can expect to see once Phase 0 is released, and these are:

  1. Seeing your Kryptomon egg and it’s dominant element
  2. Revealing the individual elemental traits of your yet unhatched Kryptomon
  3. Exploring the breakdown of the personality traits of your yet unhatched Kryptomon

And that’s it! It doesn’t sound like much on paper, but we wanted to adhere to the KISS principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid) when creating something new. If we waited till we had everything little thing perfected and all functionality ready to go before releasing Kryptomon… nothing would ever get released.

So what exactly do I *do* in Phase 0

Your starter Kryptomon

For anyone who’s ever played Pokemon, this should be an extra special moment where you meet your Kryptomon for the first time. Unlike in Pokemon however, we won’t be able to choose the stats or the element of our starter, so it’ll all come down to Lady Luck.

Will your partner be a fire-focused powerhouse that blazes it’s way to victory with overwhelming power? Or will defense be your best offense with a sturdy, defense focused tank? What do the Craziness and Smartness traits do exactly and how will they affect your Kryptomon? Either way, congratulations for getting an egg at all as this now makes you one of the first 10,000 Kryptomon trainers. Anyone else who intends to join will have to purchase an egg from someone else once the breeding mechanism is released in Phase 1.

Co-creation

In addition to getting a first look at the stats of your starter Kryptomon, Phase 0 is also when we begin fulfilling our co-creation promise to you — by releasing Phase 1 functionality in several batches over time on the BSC testnet. We want to hear YOUR ideas, what you like/dislike and incorporate your feedback into what will eventually be the finalized Phase 1 functionality.

Besides being a great way for community members to track development progress till Phase 1 is ready to be released to the Mainnet, this is your chance to help shape how Kryptomon will grow and work!

Disclaimer: It probably goes without saying, but we won’t be able to incorporate all of your ideas into Kryptomon. With breeding, social care for your Kryptomon and eventually a battling system in Phase 3 etc, every action or change we make will first have to be carefully considered to ensure it doesn’t upset the balance of all the different mechanisms that will be available. We can however, promise that all ideas and feedback will be considered equally by the team and judged on merit.

Genes and how they work

As mentioned before, Phase 0 is when you’ll first discover the genetic code of your Kryptomon. The full list of genes can be found here, but for those of you that are wondering what each of them mean and how they’ll affect your Kryptomon, here’s a quick primer.

  1. Elemental genes — This will range from 0 to 100, with 100 being the max. By itself this isn’t enough to determine if your Kryptomon will have a strong affinity for that particular element, but a high gene count is definitely still a plus.
  2. Elemental talent — A number from 0 to 10, this will be an indicator of how hard the elemental genes in your Kryptomon will work.
A simplified version of the math is to think of it this way. A Kryptomon with 80 fire genes but only a 2 in fire talent will mean it’s 80 fire genes won’t be able to fully show it’s true potential. It’ll have a fire *power* of 80x2 = 160.
On the other hand, a second Kryptomon with only 50 fire genes but with a talent of 7 would have 50*7 = 350 fire *power*, making it a far stronger fire Kryptomon than the first one.

For genes that govern the Kryptomon’s social traits, this table sums them up pretty well. We don’t want to give away too much at this point, so you’ll just have to experiment and discover it out for yourself! For now you’ll have to make do with this teaser:

A Kryptomon that’s very lazy might not respond very well to your attempts to train it while a Kryptomon that has a high Craziness stat might choose to just ignore your orders in battle.

Ending note

It’s worth reiterating that we take co-creation very seriously. Too many games and projects have failed to succeed because they didn’t take into account the opinion of it’s users, and we’re determined not to make that mistake. So if you have an opinion on how things are currently done, a suggestion on how to improve a particular functionality or just an idea that you think would be cool if implemented — let us know!

It’s also worth noting that we don’t have all the answers. We’ve got plenty of ideas but it’ll also be on you, the trainers, to let us know how we can make Kryptomon better. So pop on over to the #ideas channel in our Discord and chat to us. We promise we don’t bite :)

See you in game, fellow trainer.

PS: Did any of the 90’s kids catch my small tribute to Pokemon in the article? Comment if you did!
