Stablecoins: From Wild West to Regulated Cash

By Kenzoo | Kanza Blog | 29 Sep 2025

Stablecoins have been the "golden bridge" of crypto for many years. They promised to create a calm within a storm of volatility: one coin = one dollar. However that promise was built on sand a lot of the time. Most issuers were nontransparent, had strange reserves, and acted like shadow banks with no oversight.

This age is coming to a close. By the end of 2025, the global current affairs seem to be headed in one direction: there will be no more free-roaming stable coins.

The US went ahead to pass the GENIUS Act, mandating issuers to keep full reserves, maintain deposits at licensed financial institutions, and make books available for regular audits. "Community trust" is no more without proof.

The European Union, indeed, is going to take one stride by the MiCA, which anticipates license issuance to issuers, much like banks. Japan and Singapore have even gone farther: that is, full backing in fiat currency for stable coins- no exceptions.

We see the immediate consequences:
The formerly "wild" stablecoins will vanish. Only issuers willing to be transparent, audited, collateralized fully will remain standing. They are no longer simply hedge instruments in cryptocurrencies—they are rapidly becoming regulated digital money.

But there is a shadow to this light. Heavy regulation could strangle smaller community projects. Investors will have to take the government-decided tokens. From the perspective of regulators, it gets tighter because stablecoins will be a new channel to control financial supervision and a bridge to appear in the crypto space.

This old world of the Wild West is gone. What remains are stablecoins; they are tamer now and safer, but they have lost some degree of liberty. The more substantial question hanging over this event is: is this the dawn of the full legitimacy of crypto in global finance, or is it the beginning of the full domestication of crypto by that same system it originally intended to disrupt?
