Boot Camp Week 3, Non-Technical Recap

By Mike Bivens | Journey to Web3 | 28 Feb 2022

If you missed the other part of this week's recap blog post, I'm splitting the weekly recap blogs into separate posts, a technical recap and a non-technical recap because the content is getting longer and to make it easier for someone to go back and follow along with the development from start to finish.

If you're new here, I'm a beginner programmer in a boot camp that is working to go from coding newbie to working in web3 and this blog is serving as the space to share what I've learned, insights from informational interviews, and articles. I'm creating the blog to reflect on the growth from each week and to leave behind a series for others who want to follow a similar journey.

Every two weeks, I'm changing focus to a new major area of web3 which is directing my focus on the articles I read and share and the informational interviews I am conducting with those already in the industry. (I would love to talk with you if you are working with anything related to web3)

Articles

I'm tweeting every day (almost) the articles I'm reading and sharing them on my LinkedIn. But this was the first week of hyper-focusing on web3 development and here's what I've learned;

1. There is a massive movement of developers from web2 to web3

2. The highest number of active developers are working on open source projects

3. Who controls the flow of information is changing

4. The industry is aggressively attempting to address issues with new products and services

5. Web3 is going to impact every industry in some way

And the sources for my claims are here

How are my sources? Think I should be looking somewhere else for articles? Let me know in the comments below.

Informational Interviews

I've reached out to about a dozen people on LinkedIn and I've submitted a general post with a fair amount of hashtags to try and reach as many people as I can and it was viewed by 111 people at the time of this writing and unfortunately I have not managed to secure an informational interview as of yet. This has not discouraged me at all though!

I've changed my tactics and am now looking for other options to connect with people to score some time to talk with industry professionals, such as career counselors with the boot camp, accessing alumni spaces, and using different sites than LinkedIn. I feel confident that next weeks recap will have a much bulkier recap in this section, so stay tuned!

I'll say it again here, I would love to talk with anyone working with web3 and I appreciate any leads that can help with this journey!

If you'd like to join the learning community I'm building on Discord. I'm trying to build a space for myself and others to share their growing knowledge of all things web3. You can find the link for that here.
