Disclaimer: Gambling can be extremely addictive so please play responsibly. Additionally you’ll notice that none of these community games will make you a millionaire, and instead they’re seen as fun community-building events so please keep that in mind and don’t ruin it for the rest of us. 😀
There are many different ways that communities try to foster/enhance engagement or to promote marketing, but perhaps more than any other my favorite is poker. Although poker and I don’t necessarily have the best history (I’m never going to Reno again), it definitely has given me loads of memories playing with friends and having a good time. If you feel the same way, here’s a list of different weekly poker nights you can attend, with a short breakdown of what each community stands for.
Sundays 8pm UTC: KEOM

Starting out the week every Sunday, the chads out of KEOM (formally known as 0vix) normally have a weekly poker night for active community members only.
How can I become active?
✓ Get a Keom chad role—this can be obtained by confirming you have at least $50 dollars worth of assets deposited on Keom, and also completing the following steps:

You’ll notice in the graphic above that by supplying/using the Keom platform, it will provide eligibility for a future Keom airdrop and also a potential $POL airdrop.
✓ Participate in Discord — get involved, ask/answer questions, vote, all that good stuff. Honestly the community members are pretty awesome and easy to talk to, so this requirement shouldn’t be that tough.
Tuesdays 7:30pm UTC: UMA
I wrote an article recently about UMA and how it’s able to help protocols secure and protect governance from malicious proposals, but what they also have are poker nights after every community call, which takes place every Tuesday evening at approximately 6:30pm UTC. I highly recommend that you go check out both as there are several ways to get involved by not only earning on staked $UMA but working towards the betterment of the Crypto space in general.
Unlike the Keom tournaments, UMA provides rewards on a point-based system for the entire season, set to end this December 2023. 500 $UMA tokens are distributed for the 1st-10th places, encouraging ongoing weekly participation if you want a shot at winning something. If you’d like a further breakdown, I recommend you check out the organizer PVM’s post for further details.
Saturdays 2:15am UTC: Womp Crew
Womp Crew has much more poker games than just on Friday nights, but their “Friday Fam Game” has been going on for some time. If you’re unfamiliar with Womp it’s an NFT community based on Algorand, therefore you need to be a holder of one of the following NFT projects to join: @AddictRabbit_G @SketchyBearsNFT @NFTButtHeads @SpawnlingsNFT @AlgoNFTBuddies @HigherApeCircle @AlgorandPoker
Don’t have any interest in getting an NFT? That’s OK too because the Womp crew also has tons of other free and/or paid tournaments to join, albeit just not on a regular basis as the Friday Fam Games are.
Saturdays 6pm UTC: Carib DAO

Carib (short for Caribbean ) DAO has a weekly community game that’s open to everyone every Saturday evening. Last week the prize pool was as follows:

If you are one of the lucky winners, make sure you try to qualify for a discord role beforehand , otherwise you’ll only get half of your allotted prize. Even if you don’t place, you can still claim $CARIB (along with XP) through different Zealy quests. Either way, considering that they’re a DAO that’s trying to build “the future of Caribbean, block by block — regardless if you’re just in it for the poker, I think it’s still a good DAO to join. (Plus honestly at the price of $CARIB right now, it costs less than $2 dollars to become a “Wave Rider.”)
1-time Tournaments: Poker Freeroll Web3
There are a ton of 1-time freeroll tournaments going on in the cryptospace, many which can be extremely hard to find or track. Luckily however, there is a very comprehensive telegram channel put together by @_PokerFreerolls:
...like this one that I’m waiting to start right now:

The only “problem” I can see with using this channel is that…you’ll probably be spending a lot more time playing poker.
Conclusion
Whether it’s poker or some type of Trivia show, it’s strange to me that there aren’t more communities that provide something of the sorts to build engagement. In the crypto environment, putting up $50 bucks in prizes will probably go a lot farther than spending thousands of dollars in marketing.
Regardless thanks again for reading, and let me know if you know of any community games that I’m missing (especially if there’s an empty slot for me!) Also be sure to follow me on twitter (https://twitter.com/CryptosWith) to get all my latest updates. And lastly, looking for a gift for your Crypto-loving/hating friend? Give them a REKT journal to cheer them up!
