Change Your Perspective: Stop Being Hard on Yourself

Sometimes life gets hard. You may not get the job you wanted, experience a break-up, or you may just be having a bad day. From this comes the nights that you lay in bed and think about all the mistakes or wrong turns you may have made.

Examining the situations you encounter can be a great tool for self-improvement. However, sometimes you are your own biggest critique, and you are hard on yourself. When you find yourself in this situation here are 10 things to remember.

  1. Don't Stop Dreaming

Everyone has a dream. Sometimes when things don't go the way you planned it is easy to get discouraged. Don't stop dreaming and following those dreams. Keep setting goals and stay motivated to work towards accomplishing them.

    2. Stop Looking Outside Yourself for Happiness

Cultivate and nurture a relationship with yourself. Nobody can create or control your happiness except for you.

    3. Cover the Basics

Take the time to address your personal needs. How can you focus on thriving in your life if you are in survival mode? Set up that meeting with a financial advisor, get your space organized, and clean up the details that are wasting your energy.

    4. Embrace the Past, Then Move On

You must shift your focus from "why it happened" to "what I want to do about it now". Asking "why" is not a very empowering question. Asking "what "or "how" I want to proceed can be much more powerful, and produce forward movement.

    5. You are Not Alone

It is easy to feel overwhelmed with life. However, it's important to remember other people have went through similar circumstances and survived. Confide in the people you love and trust. Talk to them about how you are feeling. Sometimes an outside perspective can help.

    6. Practice Gratitude

Count your blessings every day. What is working right in your life? Make a list or keep a journal. Set aside a bit of time every day to acknowledge what or who you are grateful for. The more you practice gratitude, the more you will attract positivity into your life.

    7. Embrace Your Passion

What is the thing that sets your soul on fire? What makes you feel the most alive? What brings you joy? Figure out what you're passionate about and embrace it.

    8. Life is About Taking Risk

Sometimes you take a risk and it doesn't work out how you wanted. If you never took any risk you would never know the rewards. You could fail a hundred times, but it only takes one time to succeed. Don't let failure stop you from taking risks in life.

    9. Remember to Breathe

Don't forget to breathe! Constrict your breathing in response to stress. Right now take 5 deep, full breaths.

    10. Enjoy Your Life

Most importantly, don't forget to enjoy the little things in life! Call a friend, take a bubble bath, or go on a walk. Put on some great music and dance until you drop.

Technically, nobody survives life. However, by doing these 10 things it can help you get through it.
